This is so petty. America, at almost 9,000 km you have the longest single land border in the world.

Who would you prefer to be on the other side of it?

Musuko: We don`t buy oil from Iraq, Syria, Libya or Egypt. Europe buys oil from those nations. We are getting our oil from the North Sea, West Texas, Canada and the Arabs.

We didn`t invade Iraq for their oil, that`s the biggest f*cking liberal "Pants On Fire" lie told about GW Bush.

Lastly (and most importantly), we don`t necessarily LIKE having to police the whole damn planet and step up and intervene when poo hits the fan in other areas of the world. But no other countries are willing to get their hands dirty without us initiating anything, so we have the option to either sit idly by and let bad poo happen, or get involved and do what other countries ought to be willing to do without having to wait to follow the U.S.`s lead.

1) It`s not America`s fault the French "thanked" us after we won our independence. They`re responsible for their own actions.
2)It`s not America`s fault we`re proud of our country. Nobody is stopping "talking heads" from other nations from being equally patriotic.
3) We (America) can`t control what other countries "media(s)" decide to harp on, and if they decide to talk about tragedies in America for a month after they happen, thats the fault of that countries media.
4) Who the hell ever said that Americans think that "most culture and music in the past century was made in the US" ?! I for one don`t believe that, nor have I ever met a fellow American who did.
5)We don`t "own" any countries, they`re territories that were established while the country was still getting its jurisdictions and other divisions, etc. all sorted out. And they don`t seem to mind as they could always try to rebel and earn their freedom, but they

The only time I ever claim that part of Canada is in the same nation as part of the US is when I`m talking Shadowrun. United Canadian and American States, thank`yee kindly. And most American`s I`ve met are incapable of naming all of the Presidents.

Seriously, eff you Harrison. Nobody cares about you.

And shut up Millard Filmore. Nobody asked you.

Lets bring Syria down to a simple example. You live in a neighborhood with no cops. Your neighbor beats and rapes his children but you are too scared to `get involved` personally and its not like you call the cops so you just sit there. So the neighbor across the street says unacceptable but as he begins to walk over to kick this jerks door in the rest of the neighborhood gets on his case and calls him names.... odd.

Sigh. Post isn`t funny, just meant to start a flame war between America and Canada. This is just a post loudly complaining about America loudly complaining....a touch of irony there.

Although not sure why we are thanking America for the save in WW2...not like we were being invaded and needed saving and Canada had some pretty kick-ass contributions.

I`ve no idea why Obama wants to attack Syria btw. Personally I`m very pleased the UK members of parliament voted to leave well alone. Let the gulf states sort that crap out. Hatred breeds hatred. There`s no point letting even more people get pissed off with you.

Wow. What a sh*tstorm this started.
Look, I`m one of your next door neighbours, and I think a lot of what America stands for is spectacular. Other people look to your constitution and dream of living in a country based on such principles. You`ve lost more of your soldiers defending other countries and defeating dictators than any other nation. You give more charitable donations and services to other (often unappreciative) countries. By and large, you`re good people.
But don`t just claim to be "bored by the spiel," or "tired of the same old junk," READ it. Because however over the top, there is a core of truth in every complaint. Your kids recite the names of every president and can`t find Canada on a map! Or think it`s part of the US (actual experience with an adult American).
I think most of us still love you guys, at least for your discount stores, and your cheap gas. And some of us for better reasons.

We humbly apologize, when we didn`t intervene you Europeans kept starting world wars and generally speaking screwing up your "colonies" and making the residents angry.

So after two world wars, that we were dragged into, we decided, "You know what we`ll be the peacekeepers now". And you know f*cking what? For the most part it`s worked pretty damn well. No more world wars, and a generally peaceful Europe that WE helped rebuild for you, YOU`RE WELCOME.

Who was that USA bloke who debunked the anti-English propaganda in the USA press at the time, couple of hundred years ago? The USA press was telling the people of the USA that all the English hated them, blah blah blah. He took a ship to England and walked along it carrying a huge USA flag, to prove that the average English person in the street didn`t hate the USA. Americans who believed their media expected him to be beaten to death. Instead, random strangers invited him into their homes for the night and there was a party when he arrived in London.

There`s a lot of everything in the USA - good and bad, weird and banal.

Spot on!

Yes, there`s violent conflict between those countries in the past. It should stay there. The deed is done - the American colonies/France mounted a successful rebellion. Colonies often do, especially if they`re so seperated from the country of their ancestors. It`s not unusual for other countries to wade in as an add-on to their own wars. It`s not a reasonable cause for any conflict generations later.

piperfawn - It doesn`t matter. Bell is credited with the creation of the telephone. Plain and simple.

I would like to point out also; Elisha Gray was also working on a device to send voice using a liquid transmitter, which Bell is also said to have copied.

I wasn`t trying to argue and my comment was more facetious than anything else. I was simply pointing out that Bell is widely credited for the phone. Regardless of whomever was working on it at the time.

I think the European view of the average American is very skewed. I have to say I agree with Andrew155. On the whole we`re mostly a shared people with a shared history.

I`ll never understand this anti-American sentiment. Fair enough a lot of their foreign policy sucks but thats not down to your average American.

And it doesnt matter what you say Bell (a Scot living in Canada/America) invented the telephone. We have the ACCEPTED patents to prove it. Doesn`t matter who was also working on it at the time. Bell got the patent in first... So he invented it.

Ok, well now this is just quibbling over nonsense. If it`s really that important, the telephone was invented by Meucci, not Alexander Graham Bell. Even though there is no documentation that he had an electromagnetic sound device that was of practical use and there is for Bell. But it`s completely irrelevant to my point, which is that Canada has produced great innovation: Electron Microscope and Alkaline Battery.

This is why you`re being dumb. You`re just saying, "No, Canada really isn`t that innovative". Yes, they are. And no, it was not invented in Italy. Italians did experiments with it, but the first real telephone call was by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876, IN ONTARIO, and it was 6 miles away. You don`t disagree with that, you`re just intentionally being weird.

And I said relatively minor differences, not rivalries. Why would they be rivalries? And the UK, Canada, and the USA fought in most of the wars together. So I don`t know your point?

Rodin, I doubt that. Lived in Europe for 5 years and never encountered or heard of that. French liked Americans even during 2005. So you`re just kind of making it up, or using a few occurrences to denote a trend.

We have so much in common, so much shared history and innovation, so much shared suffering. Why ruin it? Mistakes are made, but why do people need to douche it all up?

Come on, between those 3 great nations, we literally built the modern world. The British brought many innovated ideas like the theory of Evolution and even Radar among so much else. Canadians gave us the Cesium Atomic clock and the telephone was invented in Ontario! America has the airplane and much of the information technology.

Of all the rivalries people want to create - why this one? It`s so useless. Differences exist, but if you really get a hernia over those relatively minor ones, then you`re just an angry person.

So I refuse to get into an argument over which great nation is greater.

Yes, just like America in WW2. It took us 2 years because that`s when we were attacked. We were in a different hemisphere, it wasn`t our responsibility. It was France, Belgium, Holland, Norway, Denmark, and the UK`s. That SHOULD have been enough. It was a good choice to wait. Ideally, we could`ve waited longer. "BUT WHY?" Because it would be worth it for Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union to exhaust each other (which is what happened). On the whole scale of the war, the UK and USA had an easy time picking up the pieces in the way it happened.

And it is easy to say, "Just vote for the right politicians to be in office". HA! If only that were possible but see ALL politicians are corrupt and only in it for themselves so it is a pointless battle.
