So, let me get this straight. Because I struggle- people get up in the middle of the night simply to buy something hours earlier than otherwise? A thing which will continue to be sold for as long as people want it? Okaaaaayy...

@madduck - Ever want anything? Something hyped for months? A few hours earlier can be worth hanging out in a line for an hour at midnight. Especially when the release is on a tuesday.

Should I make a joke regarding the 40-49 calling midnight the `middle of the night`? Nah, I`ll be there soon enough :)

I wouldn`t stand in line for much of anything.

However I at least get the standing in line for concert tickets or a black friday deal, because if you don`t there and wait you won`t get it.

I can`t grasp standing in line for something that you can walk into any store and buy a couple days later without waiting at all.

    Can someone explain it?

    @HolyGod
    it is indeed baffling
especially when you can pre-order at any game store to guarantee your copy will be there whenever you have the time to pick it up

I get out of the line at the bus stop if there`s no chance I`ll be able to sit. There`s no way I`m getting in line for the release of anything

I can`t grasp standing in line for something that you can walk into any store and buy a couple days later without waiting at all.

It`s even worse than that, because you can do that later the same day. You`ll probably have been waiting months for the game anyway, so I don`t understand why queuing in the street in the middle of the night is worth doing in order to get the game a few hours earlier.

But hey, if people want to do that then that`s fine by me. I`ll just stroll into the shop in the afternoon and not queue at all or I`ll buy a digital copy from my comfy chair at home (which I could start playing at exactly release time, while the people were still in a queue).

I`d rather wait another 6 months and buy it for less than half the original price.

Apparently there`s a "party atmosphere" as geeks of a feather flock together.

IDK though, I`ve never done it!

I buy most of my games on gog.com. No DRM at all and the usual price is under $10. $6 is common. As little as $2 during their sales. Sure, the games are usually old (it was called "Good Old Games" until it started selling new games as well) but there are good games in there.

Worth a look if you`re gaming on PC. They do new indie games as well now, along with new games from the dev that`s part of the same company. The last game I pre-ordered was from gog - Witcher 2, which I bought solely to support their policy of no DRM, at all, ever, even on brand new big-budget games. I never even played it.

    Spot-on Ferdy.
I have time-slipped by 6-12 months. This means that I buy top dollar movies at a quarter of the initial price.
Mobile phone? Last year`s `Blimey-That`s-Good` model is half-or third the price of original release.
    Clothes? End of season sales.
I get laughed at a lot, but who cares? I get to have exactly the same as everyone else, just a year later, at significantly less.
(Sadly this does not apply to beer or food)

Luckily for me, I finished work at 2am (wait, what? I`m lucky?) so waltzed straight into Asda (UK equivalent of Walmart) and bought GTA V.
