Whichever way the wind blows, whatever the latest let`s-be-scared-t-deat-and-overeact craze is, the bottom line is this: These whackadoodles are indoctri- er, excuse me- educating your kids.
And you wonder why the nation is so f*cked up?

If he brought it to school, that`s one thing, but how can they get away with nailing the kid on his front lawn? I have to wonder if there is more to this story...

At my high school, Loch Raven, if you even drew a gun on a piece of paper or made your hand look like a gun, the administration would automatically suspend you for the same offence. Not for a whole year but a week or two. My friend even got suspended for carrying "an explosive device" into school when he popped a single one of those little poppers on the sidewalk as we walk toward school.
Hell, I even got suspended for one day for saying "good afternoon loch raven" on the intercom because I could have called a lock down. It read "possible category 2 offence" for the cause on the suspension slip. Jesus, am I glad to be rid of those anally retentive idiots.

This is one of the dumbest things I`ve ever heard, there has to me more to this story.

I`m glad it wasn`t like this when I was in school! My friends and I would have been suspended, expelled and/or locked up for the sh*t we did, and got away with.

Because he never left his property, I say he never left for school, and school can`t suspend him for something he didn`t do while going to school, or while at school. That`s the position I would take as his father.

Airsoft guns are NOT firearms. Hell, even BB guns and paintball guns are NOT firearms. WTF?!

Have these idiots lost their minds?

You know what, I`m proposing we have a "Zero Tolerance Policy" on the lack of common sense in our schools. Suspend these school administrators, without pay, for not having an ounce of common sense.

    1) it wasn`t anywhere near the school`s jurisdiction over jack poo.
    2) an airsoft gun does not meet ANY of the criteria whatsoever of a "firearm".
    3) This has nothing to do with "zero tolerance". It`s apples and oranges and a complete overreaction to personal property apples and oranges that are none of their f`ing business.

"2) an airsoft gun does not meet ANY of the criteria whatsoever of a "firearm". "

Depends on where you are. While it might not be the case there, in New Jersey:

"Any person who knowingly has in his possession any handgun, including any antique handgun, without first having obtained a permit to carry the same as provided in N.J.S.A. 2C:58-4, is guilty of a crime of the third degree if the handgun is in the nature of an air gun, spring gun or pistol or other weapon of a similar nature in which the propelling force is a spring, elastic band, carbon dioxide, compressed or other gas or vapor, air or compressed air, or is ignited by compressed air, and ejecting a bullet or missile smaller than three-eighths of an inch in diameter, with sufficient force to injure a person. Otherwise it is a crime of the second degree."

nettech: Then NJ law has gone completely bonkers. That law would include some types of "nerf" guns and even rubber band/spring type toys. Totally ridiculous!

When I was at school we were forced to be in the Combined Cadet Force (squaddies).
Every Friday we had to wear battle-dress to school, (itchy as phuk), and in the afternoon march up and down in squads, learn shooting at the school range, radio operation, motor-transport etc etc.
I hated it, they hated me, as I did not respond to being given orders, so I was posted to the sod-squad. This entailed going to the school library and getting on with school-work. Like you are supposed to at school. I am still a good shot with a rifle though.

Wikipedia defines the word firearm as:

"A firearm is a portable gun, being a barreled weapon that launches one or more projectiles often defined by the action of an explosive."

    Types of firearm for intrest

Hence I would not define the Air-soft gun as a firearm.

Now, as far as I am aware this child was on private property, where according to the news report he has used the Air-soft gun previously under adult supervision. So then, what right does the school have to suspend the said child for a year for using a "firearm" on private property? None. He was not on school property, at the stop or in the bus with the air-soft gun.

The school or whoever had reported this child has stepped out of line unnecessarily.

Airsoft guns, as far as the law is concerned, are considered "firearms" in certain states/municipalities. Where I live (Pittsburgh), they`re considered firearms, as "airguns" have a muzzle velocity limit of, I think 100 fps.

patchouly: "...the Tea Partier(s)... want to bring us back to the pioneer days are so much better for society?"

Yup, my dad started hunting with his father and grandfather at age 8. Toy guns and BB guns were all over the place, and I mean cap guns with real explosive powder. They even had toy cannons that used carbide for a real loud bang.

And you know what? No one ever heard of a school shooting. No one was concerned if a kid brought their Red Rider BB gun in for show-n-tell day. No one was ever concerned about the kids playing cowboys and indians in the front yard, making sounds like "pew pew, pow pow, bang ya got me!".

So forgive us for wanting a return to that kind of innocence and freedom. It`s a shame that people like you denigrate us for wanting common sense returned to the world.

The Tea Party advocates adherence to the constitution. Why are you so terrified of that? Oh, yeah, I forgot; you`re a liberal. If we followed the constitution, you couldn`t boss people around and take their stuff.
