@Squrlz4: ah! I didn`t know about the infrared thing! That must make it work a lot better than the old ways.
I just mean: I hope there`s a back-up to unlock it! lolz! In case you forget your thumb...

@BritInvasion: Yup! It sounds like science fiction, but it`s happening all around us!

The "barcode" = 666 = The Mark of the Beast
(Intended to replace ID, credit cards, cash! everything in one package!)

@LordJim: I was also thinking of the "eyeball scanners" in Demolition Man, Minority Report and dozens of other movies... = Eww! Gross!

@5cats: creepy story time. The government doesn`t need you to get a tattoo. Every single person that has a smartphone or phone that can connect to the internet already has an I.D. Every internet capable device has a personal MAC address, just like U.S. residents have a Social Security Number.

With these MAC addresses there is no need for the government to tag anyone, the people are doing it for them. Even better, these tags already tell them your facebook page, your bank account, your likes and dislikes...yup with that one id they can get everythig and anything about you.

Did you know it is also possible for them to turn on your phone and initiate the camera and voice?

Good stuff :) people bar coding themselves.

@ 5Cats: Apparently, you can set it to recognize more than one finger`s fingerprint, so you can use either thumb, either index finger, etc. Also, it reads the fingerprint below the outer layer of the skin with infrared--so that papercut would have to be really deep to throw the sensor off.

The main reason Apple developed this was that they found that 50% of iPhone users don`t bother to use a password to lock it because they don`t like the hassle. So they`ve tried to make the security pretty close to effortless. Looks to me like they might`ve succeeded.

One more step towards mandatory bar-code tattoos...

What if you get a papercut? You still have a password & stuff to unlock it, correct?

So if someone wants to force you to unlock your phone? All they need to do is push your thumb onto the thing and !Presto! it`s open! Attached or not, eh? Like in the movies.

The amount of paranoia this thing has created is great. Same with Xbox One`s new Kinect bar, every sucker is up in arms thinking "It`s watching me 24/7 and sending stuff to the government".

Lol you crazy bastards.

Come to think of it, I`ll bet Apple`s senior executives had a few sleepless nights when the Snowden-NSA story broke. At that point they`d already invested hundreds of millions of dollars into the fingerprint scanning technology and would have had a hard time reversing course.

In response, I`m sure they must`ve focus-grouped the heck out of it and found that most consumers felt the benefits outweighed the privacy concerns--even with the recent NSA revelations.
