Oh, one expansion: taxes are about 1-200% too high. That is the freedom of socialism ...

At the risk of irony, I agree with Nickel2. Except that I am not retired, I simply work to keep myself. I am free not to work, and to starve. There is no alternative, apart from using force to demand others work to keep me, which anyone has to admit is far from freedom.

In other words, the elements of this idiotic list that are not a free choice are necessary not through lack of freedom but simply because we live in reality, not a place where socialism works.

Yes. We CHOOSE to do all those things because, well, it makes our life nice. Yes, even taxes are a choice. We wouldn`t have to pay them if we didn`t choose to work.

Nobody says you HAVE to: get married, have kids, watch tv, follow fashion, or even act "normal".

Heres some advice:

Dont purport to give advice when your under 30. ffing children, live by these creeds and you will be unpleasantly suprised by the results. Its your life... total rubbish except for the TV one.

Hey Draculya, where do you live in Asia? Sounds sweet, although I generally dont fancy Asian cultures, and the women dont rock my boat. Then again, your descrption sounds pretty good.

So that versus living alone in the woods wearing palm fronds and eating pine cones and worms?

Go to work - I go to work when I like do what I like at work, leave when I want. Everyone works for me.

Get married - I got married, but I live in Asia, if you know what I mean.

Have kids - why not? They`re fun, especially when you have 3 women at home to take care of them.

Pay taxes - I paid under 4% tax on my effective income last year. We have no sales tax, council tax, import duty or withholding taxes.

Pay your bills - a rounding error.

Watch TV - when I want, what I want.

Follow fashion - I don`t give a monkey`s about fashion. Never have.

Act normal - Knowing me from IAB, who amongst you think I am a conformist? LOL

Obey the law - never met a law I needed to break.

Bollocks, I say. Im free to do what I want, but personally I like conformity. It works well. Ive not been stabbed walking to the shops. the system works and it works well.

well what if that`s all you want? being married with a family and a job and kicking back at the end of the day with some tv. i can think of worse things to strive for, like trying to be the next snookie or Lindsey lohan.

Hm... I do all of those except follow fashion and act normal..... But, I agree with everyone else. That all sounds like freedom to me.

Side note: Anyone who disagrees with paying taxes needs to stop using any public services.

Oh look, a Guy Fawkes mask, hahahahaha!!!

It`s funny because like Darkalen said, Time Warner owns the rights to the image and is paid a licensing fee for the sale of every mask. So, while they`re out there protesting about how corporate America is screwing them, they`re giving them their money by buying the masks they wear when protesting. Seems counterproductive if you ask me!

Also, while Fawkes was there to blow up Parliament & destabilize the British gov`t, he was doing so in order to give power back to the Catholic church. He was`t trying to destroy an evil theocracy, he was trying to install one.

Wait, so the image is from a Time Warner-owned movie company which nets somewhere in the neighborhood of $3.5 billion a year and controls some of most influential media outlets in the world...yeah, pretty much lost me at that.

Can someone explain this post to me? Other than "Pay Your Taxes" all of these are things that a person is free to choose to do or choose not to do. I am married but many of my friends are not. I have kids but most of my friends, even my married friends, do not. My wife and I have both chosen to "work" at enjoyable but low-paying jobs that give us more free time with our children. I am far from "normal" and I have never followed any sort of fashion or trends except maybe checking movie reviews for new movie releases. I don`t watch TV except for sports, and you don`t have to obey the law, just don`t get caught. None of my pot-smoking friends obey the law, but they don`t get caught.

TL;DR - this post makes no sense.

Maybe because I know someone in prison who is NOT free, this list sounds like first-world whiny-pants problems.

I work- but I love what I do, so it`s not a `job`.
I`ve been married 39 years- Still love my wife.
Had a mess of kids- still love them too. Frankly, I can`t imagine my life without either.
I pay my bills, my taxes, haven`t watched tv in years, one look at me will tell ya I certainly don`t follow fashion.
Given what family and friends say- I sure ain`t `normal`- whatever that is.
Obey the law- yeah, mostly.
I`m free- Free to do whatever I wish- long as I`m willing to deal with the consequences.
Freedom is NOT complete lack of responsibility if you`re wanting to put that responsibility on others.

You do not have to go to work, but do not expect others to support you.
You do not have to get married, it is a choice.
You do not have to have kids, it is a choice.
You do not have to pay taxes, but don`t expect the protections of your society.
You do not have to pay your bills, but don`t expect to be given consideration.
You do not have to watch tv, it is a choice.
You do not have to follow fashion, in fact, you`re better of not doing so.
You do not have to act normal, no one is forcing you to.
You do not have to obey the law, but do not expect others to put up with it.

You are free. No one said it would be easy.
