Everyone goes on about the atheist indoctrination in higher education. Why has no one mentioned almost compulsory religious classes for kids in public education.

I like my current philosophy class. Right from the start we got a very clear "no appealing to external value" - if the only support your view has is "god said it" then your view is poo.

It is funny how Christians view Atheists. They never seem to understand the concept. Using TV as an analogy, they seem to only be able to conceive of a TV that is turned off as if it were just another channel.

Arguing that God is dead makes you an anti-theist, not an Atheist.

Anybody that says there is no God is just as much a fool as someone who says that there is a God.

Religion on the other hand is testable and has failed. Either you take the Bible literally or you don`t. In other words, either it is full of crap, or you are.

mesovortex: "Even if Jesus existed, you`d have to do a lot more than writing a college paper to `prove` that he was...."

That wasn`t the thesis of my paper. The things on your list are part of theology, not mythology. My paper was written to give evidence that Jesus wasn`t a myth.

How many other movies end the same way, but with different revelations? Nothing wrong with following a story structure.

So this prof lost his faith when his wife died? What are the odds the movie ends with the student embracing the weeping prof as he returns to his faith?

CrakrJak, Please note though, he didn`t include mohammed,`

Perhaps because mo was defintely an historical figure and not a myth. The figure of Jesus may have some grounding in historical reality but it`s up for debate. No Vishnu? I`m astonished.

5Cats,

`Inside North America`s Universities? (Except the overtly Christian ones! Obviously.) They are indeed the minority...`

Any idea why that might be?

Lol, it`s like someone made the atheist professor copypasta into a direct-to-DVD movie.
I wrote a 5 page thesis that Jesus DID exist and presented it as my mid-term.
Perhaps a guy called Yeshua lived then, but I find it odd that there are no external accounts of his miracles or any other godly gobbledeegook he is purported to have done. In an age with so many people writing things down too...
"SCIENCE SUPPORTS HIS EXISTENCE!"
"Believe in God or not? SHOW a little RESPECT!"

Civility is automatic. Respect is earned.

Don`t demand respect. Earn it.

I quit watching this when it became clear that anyone who doesn`t believe in a magic sky daddy is a complete as*hole. I`ll wait for it to show up on TV and not watch it then.

Gerry1of1: I`m pretty sure the movie is trying to play into Nietzsche`s "God is dead" line from The Gay Science. They are completely missing the point of what Nietzsche was saying, but whatevs.

WOAH! Who had the balls to make THIS movie!

Believe in God or not? SHOW a little RESPECT! That`s far too much to ask of the IAB Liberal Brigade, I know, just wishful thinking...

My (1st) biology professor started class off with something similar to Sorbo`s character. I failed the class. Passed the credit by examination, it didn`t have a theological bias like the professor`s tests did.

There are teachers of all faiths (and lack thereof), and there are some courses where they are allowed to use the classroom as a pulpit. There are some classes where they are not. Regardless of their faith, when they overstep that boundary, we have a problem.

Is this serious?

Cheesy as hell!

And everyone knows that it`s the Flying Spaghetti Monster that has touched all of us with His Noodley Appendage and created everything in existence. There`s no way you can prove that wrong, either.

The thing is, I don`t care if you believe in a god, no god, or 100 gods. Don`t try to make laws based in your religion to lord over how I want to live my life. I don`t care how hard you believe or how deep your faith is. Thinking you know the mind of god doesn`t mean you actually know.

You don`t know the mind of god, or if there`s a god, or if there are many, least of all what sex the god is or what messiah(s) he chose for this planet.

So don`t act like you do.

If christians (and other religious people) followed that tenet, we wouldn`t have so many problems.

Exactly. As if the religious right and the `moral majority` hasn`t hijacked enough of the US Government to push whatever religious agenda they want (be it gay marriage to creationism to denail of climate change due to their own religion) including getting their multi million dollar churches tax exempt, getting their slogans on our money, putting 10 commandments on public government buildings, and all while wanting a theocracy yet denouncing theocracies in the middle east...

Well you get my drift.

@CrakrJak:
Even if Jesus existed, you`d have to do a lot more than writing a college paper to `prove` that he was

* A son of god
* The only son of god
* Performed magic (miracles)
* Came back from the dead as a zombie

This movie just portrays the typical stereotype of the `atheist professor` when the reality is you`ll find professors of all faiths and none at all.

The only `religious` issue I saw was in Philosophy where things got out of hand due to christians proclaiming that x y or z was proof of god, and kept calling others names and other insults when they were shown that their arguments just weren`t good enough. One argument? Pascal`s Wager.

Christians aren`t the oppressed `minority`, and they haven`t been for at least 1500 years.

If he never existed how can he be dead?
That aside, it might be a good movie if it`s made well.

jamie: I`m glad you never ran into a radical atheist professor, and most students don`t, but I did. He was teaching "Mythology" and included Jesus as a myth. Please note though, he didn`t include mohammed, buddha, vishnu or other contemporary religions.

After doing much secular research, citing archeology and palaeography, I wrote a 5 page thesis that Jesus DID exist and presented it as my mid-term.

There was no drama, no heated debate. He gave me a B+ on the paper, 3rd highest in the class, but wouldn`t let it be read aloud as others were.

Unfortunately, there are instances of professors using their classrooms as leftist political and atheist incubators, indoctrinating their students into their world.

Cheezy and melodramatic, which means probably good for a laugh.

They should have just made it a Hercules/Xena reunion. Lucy Lawless as a rambunctious Latin professor. Michael Hurst as the chaplain with a shady past. Bruce Campbell as the wacky dean.

Right wing propaganda aimed at perpetuating the bs belief that when you go to college evil left wing professors attack your religious beliefs and then sink to the level of a petty tyrant and get into a personal grudge match with anyone that dares defy them...

I have two BAs from two different schools and a Master`s and through it all Never once ran into the mythical anti Jesus prof that was pushing atheism like candy flavored cracked.

I`m a Christian btw, I`m just smart enough to know bs when I see it, separate my politics from religion and think critically.

Not what I would want to see.. problem I can see is that it feeds into the paranoia of the very religious. the idea that they are persecuted, or that belief is the norm- when in the west I reckon it isn`t.
