I was leaving the grocery store a few weeks back and an older man (who was a good 15-10 ft ahead of me) dropped a dollar in the cart he left behind on his way to leave. A woman (who had a lack of care for bathing and a love for Mossy Oak) immediately snatched up the dollar and pocketed it. Even though she saw him accidentally drop it. I was so angry and wanted to say something but I was so afraid of making a scene because I would have had to yell/raise my voice to get his and her attention. I still kick myself for not saying something even though it was just a dollar. But for all I know, he is retired and living off of SS on a fixed income...*sigh*

I have a couple of "different countries" questions:

    1) Was what she did illegal? It would be in the UK ("theft by finding"). Over here, you have a legal obligation to take reasonable steps to find the owner of something you find (if reasonable steps are possible, which they clearly were in this case).

    2) He told the blind person that the note he was giving him had the same value as the one he`d dropped - is it possible to tell the value of notes by feel in the USA? It is here, deliberately so because some people are blind.

    1) I think technically yes what she did was theft, but since the police were not called at the time it is unlikely anything will come of it.

    2) Up until 2008, no. But a policy change required new design to be significant for the blind (i.e. by feel). However, this does not change all the bills that remain in circulation. So it will be irrelevant for many, many years to come.

This used to be normal everyday decent behavior, now it gets posted on the internet for all to applaud. Perhaps modern society is getting so jaded that this good behavior is seen as remarkable. Or is it just the easy access, via the internet, to publish such good deeds?

U.s. dollar bills are badly designed, have no distinguishing characters, I.e. size, feel for the blind.
