5Cats Presents: The New Boys (1974 film)

I just barely avoided going there in 1979! My brother spent 2 years: 1980-1982. Luckily the pedophiles were removed by then (not mentioned in this film! It came out years later). There were several like it in Canada (run by the same Anglican Order) but this was the biggest and lasted the longest. Closed in the 90″s. Those canoes weigh about 300+ pounds. The comments there are also worth reading.

Excellent presentation! Thanks you guys! (probably @kitteh9?)

Someone voted it 1.0 already? Four people? (I did the math) I guess they don`t like canoes.

The second half is the strongest part, so do try to watch it all before passing judgement.

It`s not a "sad story" but rather an "unflinching look" at reality: both good and bad. Made in 1974, it`s timeless.

Note: I got the date for the pedophile wrong, it was just after my Bro left the school. Close call! Eh?

I`m all for discipline and learning to handle yourselves, learn responsibility, etc, etc, etc ... that was just friggin creepy in a less-than-obvious kinda way.

If my parents had sent me there I would`ve run away from home the second I got back (or faked my death and let them live with that poo).

@Runemang: That`s why I put the word "sombre" in the description! It`s also `gritty` and `vaguely disturbing` too.
But at the end of that trip? Those boys felt really good about themselves! Pride is a proper thing (when deserved!) and nothing teaches self-confidence like actually doing things that are difficult!

So all the IAB whiners who complain "there`s NO variety" on IAB? I`ll be linking this post and asking why it has such a crappy score. All those 1.0 votes for something SO ORIGIONAL and UNUSUAL and seriously it`s NOT BORING!

    What`s up with that? Honestly...

(Note: That`s why I put my name in the title, to show all the h8ters they are, indeed, wrong.)

I think self sufficiency and confidence are essential to both boys and girls especially of that age - I guess forcing a kid do to that kind of sucks and two years of it is f-ng disturbing. I don`t know what to think, but it was interesting.
