Note to self: see this movie come October.

It`s a miracle to be able to find any decent flicks anymore, but this looks like it`s going to be one of them.

I`m pretty sure I`ve seen a different version of this movie in school. My Middle and High school history experience consisted mostly of watching videos about slavery. I am not exaggerating. I watched the whole series Roots two times in school (just so you know, that`s 9.5 hours each), I saw Amistad twice, I saw Glory once (Black civil war soldiers), Gone with the Wind once, I saw whatever the other version of this story was once, I saw countless documentaries and more made-for-tv movies about the subject. There was one time where we spent 2 weeks of classes watching movies about the civil rights era.

And then I had to read the whoooole Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry series, and To Kill a Mockingbirdt not once, not twice, but THREE times. I don`t know why three times, it seemed like a giant waste of time.

It was practically the only thing my school was teaching people.

    Solomon Northup`s Odyssey

Here is the PBS one I saw in High School. It was actually good, but the school system today (or at least mine) just overwhelms you with nothing but Slavery and then calls it an education.

But I do recommend this PBS version.

@Andrew155 I`m actually more amazed that showing endless videos to your class is considered "teaching". Sounds like you got the short end of the stick, education-wise. Although, considering some of the "teachers" I had back in the day, maybe watching movies all day would have been an improvement...

Steve McQueen (not the race car driver/actor/chef) is a brilliant director and Michael Fassbender has always put on an amazing performance (see Shame) Can`t wait to see this. (please dont let this be race-baity :( )

Oh sure, another anti-slavery movie. They only ever show one side of it. How about a movie showing the happy slaves for a change.
