Colbert called it in 2001 long before Obama, and right smack dab in the middle of people supporting Bush"s Patriot Act.

Meanwhile, Obama not only extends this Patriot act, but enhances it greatly. But it`s suddenly not a big deal because Obama is cool. It`s really Bush`s fault.

Same thing with the Middle East. We are just as entangled as ever. Obama surged Afghanistan, his "good war", with 100k additional troops. A majority of the deaths were under him. But it`s still no big deal because Obama`s cool. No mention that his Afghan strategy shift is a failure.

And then there`s Libya, a war that went around Congress. That`s a really big deal.

And then there is the probable arming of Syrian rebels without anyone`s consent. That`s probably what the dozens of cia agents were doing at Benghazi.

Drone strikes. Everywhere. But you see, Obama`s cool. So it`s all good. I mean, I don`t totally agree with it, but his heart is in the right place, right? He`s doing his best!

Nothing to see here people, let`s blame Bush.

Sleepyhallow - look at my age. I was 11 for 9/11 and 12 for Iraq. It`s so weird to hold a child accountable for their views at the time (of which I barely had). Yet I do remember the environment at the time, my dad was in the AF so it all affected me. Colin Powell and Bush did push these things, yes.

But guess what? Congress has the war powers. I just listed the 98 or so people in the Senate who voted for the Patriot Act. Bipartisan. And what about Hillary, Biden, Kerry, and a whole array of Dems (and Reps) who voted for Iraq? Bipartisan.

There is no excuse, they are not victims for their votes. It was their vote and they have to live with it. Your whole argument hinges on Bush and Powell intentionally lying. Did they? Or was it bad intelligence? There is more evidence to the latter, quite frankly.

Hey @SleepyHallow: How did the Senate & Congress vote when Obama invaded Libya?
OH RIGHT! He never even ASKED them!
In direct violation of the US Constitution, of course.

Go ahead: Bash Bush some more! The talk about "facts"... hypocrite.

Andrew ~ And do you also remember the lies the were told to congress and the American people at the time, and *who* told those lies, to get such overwhelming support?

How conveniently you "forget" the salient facts when it suits you.

BUSH`s Patriot Act? Seriously? Do you really think Bush implemented the Patriot Act all by himself without any help from Congress? Are you actually that f***ing stupid? The Patriot Act was passed by OVERWHELMING BIPARTISAN MAJORITIES in BOTH HOUSES of congress!

Now here`s a riddle. Who was it that said, "If congress won`t act, I will?"

"And he`s so busy. At least his heart is in the right place. He`s doing his best I tell you!"

But most of what you`re saying is obvious business that everyone says.

"Wait, you mean it`s all of them?? They`re all at fault" Nawwww Gedoudaheee!

Peakingo, I was 11 when 9/11 happened. Still only 12 when the Iraq war started. Yes, shiite just got real here. Don`t be weird about the opinions of a child during this time, holding a child accountable for the Patriot Act is strange.

This is who passed the law.

And yes, people like you are a dime a dozen. Just like how Matt Damon recently came out against Obama.

Yet so many people of that ilk still dragged themselves to the polls to reinstate him. Therefore, this is the typical Obama supported: "I don`t agree with everything he`s done, but he`s only one man. And he`s so bus

I think it`s all irrelevant outside of the fact that the people who saw it happening were called un-American and commies and "against us" and now it`s all been proven.

Don`t get me wrong and I think a few of you "cough" Andrew feel I support Obama. I`ve mentioned here before that I don`t and I think he`s a failure and a hypocrite.

The difference is I don`t forget about the past which some seem to do. You can`t blame any POS President, which to be fair they all are, for abusing the system. It`s expected.

The difference is I don`t give anyone a free pass. Including Reagan, Bush, Clinton, W, Obama. All relevant to my life time.

People need to remember who passed this law, how it happened, the state of mind of our country and our vulnerability and the manipulation that went into passing a law that would never happen again.

Colbert, proving once again people have been crying "They`re taking away our freedoms!" for over a decade, and will probably still be crying the same thing a decade from now, when absolutely nothing changes.

He really doesn`t care that much now, because Obama`s heart is in the right place. He`s doing the best he can guys, get off his case!

The Bush patriot act was a step, an erosion. That`s not excuse to deflect from Obama`s highly hypocritical extension of it - as well as his drastic amplification of it.

Also, don`t forget.
