Didn`t see `The Spunk-Trumpets` listed, perhaps they are too recent a phenomenon.

I`m thinking a lot of these aren`t exactly real. R.E.M. was originally the Twisted Kites in 1980, that`s been well-documented, they changed the name to R.E.M. in 1981.
It`s even listed on the Rock and Roll HOF website here

The 80`s band The Outfield were originally known as the Baseball Furies (named after the gang in The Warriors).

"Rain" is still around, but it`s a Beatles tribute band.
