I watched this video and it leaves too many questions at this point as to what all transpired. I`ll be very interested to see the results of the investigation as it unfolds.

9 times well how many cops shot at him? 9 rounds can be shot very quickly without realizing it especially when some nut job is running at you with a knife. As for the taser well that`s messed up if he was disabled or was he tazered at the same time as being shot?

The guy analyzing the video is the perfect example of what is wrong with our mentality about police today.
Basically, if police are involved, any action they take must be viewed as if they are perfectly within reason, even when evidence CLEARLY shows that the contrary is true.

All you people defending this behavior from law enforcement are insane... "of course nine times!" "9 rounds can be shot very quickly without realizing it".... Media brainwashing is doing it job, bravo.

Will wait for futher information before making a decision.

But it`s usually a bad idea to refuse to drop a knife when multiple officers instruct you to do so.

    It`s also a bad idea to bring a knife to a gun-fight.

He wasn`t shot 9 times. He was shot AT 9 times. I`ve heard from a reputable source that 4 shots missed.

"When it appeared as though Yatim would not comply with the police order to drop the knife, one officer fired three gunshots in quick succession, followed by a five-second pause and then six more shots.
Ross McLean, a security expert and former Toronto police officer, noted the change in posture of the shooting officer after he had discharged the first three shots. The officer’s arms had come down from their initial upright shooting position to a more relaxed shooting position, which suggests that Yatim had been felled by the first three shots and that with the second barrage of shots, the officer was shooting closer to the floor of the streetcar."

Remember this is Canada and not the USA.

    Mikeoxsbiggg-"How about tazing him first?"

The decision upon what level of violence used to stop a maniac rest with the people on the scene. They are the only ones that can make that decision. They will investigate to see if the made the right decisions.

In an ideal world all idiots would be taken down with soothing music and land on marshmellow pillows.

Of course, the SIMPLE thing to do is not pull a knife on a cop. That`s what is known as a `root cause`.

Sgt. Brad Fawcett is a trainer at the Justice Institute of B.C.

Fawcett notes that few people realize how quickly a life-or-death decision must be made.

"The other thing to remember is we train average people . We train your sister, brother husband, mother, father. They don`t come with 33 years of martial arts experience.

"Some of them haven`t seen a real gun until they get into policing. Some of them have never even tasted their own blood because someone punched them in the mouth."

While I agree it`s a bad idea to attempt to hold cops off with a knife, I gotta wonder how much of a threat this guy was, holed up in a streetcar; Were there others in there?- the article doesn`t say, and I couldn`t see anyone.
But, whattayagonnado? There will be an internal investigation, the cop will get paid time off, eventually he`ll be cleared and maybe-MAYBE- there will be a review on training standards and cops will have to take a class- and nothing will change.
There ARE good cops out there, but they have this thing, this first loyalty to the `Blue` thing, that compels them to turn a blind eye to the wrongdoings of their brethren. That has to change. As well, police MUST be held criminally liable for there deeds when they do wrong.

@LandoGriffin: Lolz -NOPE! Don`t recall that one.

@Mikeoxisbiggg: The guy explained that the officers there weren`t issued Tasers, only the "Sargents" had them. When one arrived at the scene? He immediately went and Tasered the guy... who was laying in a pool of blood...

This Link Has More More links to other stories about this one.

Both Videos On This Page are interesting. Scroll down for the shorter one, it shows the actual shooting.

"Yatim" was exposing himself and threatening people with a knife."
3 shots fired, Yatim went down, 6 seconds pass then 6 MORE shots are fired.
20 seconds AFTER that he gets T

CaptKangaroo-"I gotta wonder how much of a threat this guy was"

A guy with a knife can be a threat. (not always, I`m eat lunch with a guy throwing a knife around all the time...of course he`s using it to shuck my oysters)

    CaptKangaroo-"Were there others in there"

The driver and all other passengers had vacated the streetcar when he pulled the knife.

It has also been reported that after they commanded him to drop the knife he began advancing on the officers, still holding the knife.

A guy with a knife can be a threat.

A guy with a knife advancing on you is an immediate threat.

A guy with a knife advancing on armed officers is a suicide by cop.

@MeGrendel- You`re inside a streetcar with a knife- all by your lonesome. I`m outside- as close or as far as I need, to feel safe- and control the situation.
But, behind my many badge, my gun feels insufficient and I make a mess in my shorts- in my anger, I shoot ya 3 times- I wet myself a bit, so as you lay- STILL inside the streetcar, I shoot ya a few more times- jus` because you sceerd me SO bad.
    Maybe pussies shouldn`t be cops.

It took them nine shots AND a taser to kill him? Those cops need to spend some time on the range.
