Sethdog is correct. Remember, we are an island in the middle of nowhere that relys heavily on a reputation of really good agricultural products. We export high quality s hit all over the world. We dont want any thing to f uck that up. Boarder security are more worried about fruitflys than potential `terrorists`. Fruitflys are our terrorists...

@Avatarjohn, you can get an abortion in NZ, and many women choose to. But when you are able to have your baby and be looked after by the stae until your child is 18, why would you? there is also a very strong adoption culture, you have to wait on lists for years just to be considered. Abotion is your last option here, and certainly still seen as undisirable and morally unjust.

@crakrjak, NZ is not xenophobic. It is actually an incredibly multicultural society and has very generous political assylum and political refugee laws. Plus, when they arrive, they are looked after by the state, generously, and supported into settleing into their new lives. I might also point out that race relations in NZ (although not perfect) are way more advanced that a lot of countires) Nz also enjoys religious freedoms, seperating state and church. Walk around in a burka, no one gives a f uck, muslims, buddists, fundementalist christians and cults all welcome :) what you do in private is your own bi
Put it this way: If an Arab with a clean record and obeying all the rules went through both our countries, he wouldn`t get hassled here like he would at your airports.
Yeah, wait till 19 of them kill about 3000 of you. I`ll bet that changes. I actually wish that would change things here. TSA spends all their time harassing children in wheelchairs, WWII veterans with artificial hips, and lactating mothers. Arabs are considered a disadvantaged minority with protected status.

@McGovern1981 - Maybe you should reread what I said.. He said we are a Xenophobic country based on him watching a TV show about our border security which is completely ridiculous when every country has those sort of policies in place, we are just especially strict on people bringing food and plants ect because they can contain bacteria or pests that can severly impact on our agriculture and native wildlife.. If people read the rules on coming here then they would not be hassled.. Put it this way: If an Arab with a clean record and obeying all the rules went through both our countries, he wouldn`t get hassled here like he would at your airports..

@SmagBoy1

So what your saying is you were trying to make a point that was anti gun and knew it was wrong from the start.

@OldOllie Holy poo I can`t believe you`re still trolling around here man.

They`re also (mostly) atheistic countries, too.

I suppose it`s just a strange coincidence that these are probably the 10 WHITEST counties in the world as well.

It would certainly help if they included the criteria for what they consider safe. Maybe I missed it.

Damned, only #9.. Well. xD

Wouldn`t count Tuvalu in , it might be safe according to crime statistics but it`s gonna lose most if not all of its` landmass soon, disappearing beneath the waves..

@CrakrJak, That happens almost everywhere you go these days, not just limited to our country. It is true that we have very strict importing regulations as we do not want foreign bacteria, insects and pests affecting out native wildlife, trees and food which could severely impact our economy..

Agree with some, disagree with some... Laughed my butt off with Ireland being on the list- though mostly at the caption.

SethDog: I`ve seen your country`s version of the TSA at work. It`s a TV show here. Seen them tear apart people`s boats because of a dog`s false alert. Seen them confiscate expensive kitchen knives from a chef. Seen them detain and arrest a Chinese guy that had some flowers in his luggage.

Sorry, but examples like the above don`t seem welcoming at all.

@CrakrJak - Errrr, are you kidding me? Our country is a pretty diverse and forward thinking place. Most people get along well no matter what culture you are from.. Unlike your country!

That is because New Zealand is one of the most xenophobic countries in the world.

That`s right, we`re not safe.
That`s why we need guns, to protect ourselves.
Of course, if the Zimmerman case proves anything, it is that you`re not allowed to defend yourself.

Good thing all those countries/people have all those guns to protect everyone`s safety and rights! (And yes, I know, some do. So sue me.)

@bacon_pie - That`s exactly what I was thinking, hahaha!

I think "safety" is overrated anyway. As George Carlin said, "You need a little danger in your life. Take a f*ckin chance once in a while, will ya!"

A bit light on stats and no real surprises. Tuvalu seems nice, while it lasts.
