Can`t think of any good reason for the truck driver to keep going, particularly since he doesn`t know if there are hurt people in the car.

Excellent reaction by the truck driver. Did you see what he was carrying? Hydrogen gas.

If he had slammed on the brakes, he may have jackknifed, which could have led to an explosion and killed everyone withing a 100ft radius.

He assessed the situation, and determined that he could slow down gradually, protecting the load, and the lives of countless others.

BRAVO! Now give the driver of that car a ticket for cutting off the HYDROGEN TRUCK! Idiot.

VV I agree @aj: When trucks carry hazardous materials? They have different rules. Few things go "boom" better than hydrogen!

VERY good truck driver... I think the 100ft radius auburnjunky guessed at would have been about 5x smaller than the real boom.

@auburnjunky While I see your point of the truck driver trying to avoid disaster, he never tried to slow down to come to a stop or even tried to stop for that matter. Therein lies the problem.

Imagine being that driver in the front....

But, jackknifing with a flammable load is no joke. Especially in the rain, I don`t think the truck driver had a choice there.

    McThstl:

Here`s how I see the events play out.

Truck driver: Oh come on don`t cut me off. OH SHI OH SHI OH SHI! Okay don`t slam brakes. It`s raining. Just take the foot off the gas until I`m slow enough to hit the brakes.

Whew. Hope that guy is okay.

Good call on the hazardous cargo, guys. Just wondering if the truck driver could have at least begun slowing down sooner.

I had that happen. It didn`t take the driver a mile to pull over, but it did happen. I was also thankful for wet pavement that day.

The same thing happened in Yorkshire, A1(M) - 18/03/10, the lorry driver had no idea he had hit a car and just kept going.

I`ve done this in a 4-car carrier tow truck. The thing is, as a truck driver, you can`t see crap that`s happening that close in front of you at car level. The only way I knew there was a car being pushed in front of my truck is because I had the windows down and heard the tires squealing. I didn`t even feel it when the car made contact, and since they were in my blind spot when they tried to merge with me, I hadn`t seen a thing.

People always - ALWAYS- underestimate the blind spots on a truck. They are huge, and your little 2-3000 lb car doesn`t make a lick of difference to 40 tons of truck with momentum behind it. Drive safely around trucks, and assume they cannot see you.

@Mcthstlpnts: The worst possible thing that could happen is if -another truck- rear-ended the hydrogen carrier. On a crowded highway, in the rain? Not much else could be done once the car was hit.

Anyhow, it`s not going to harm the car much to take 3 minutes to stop as opposed to 2 minutes.
    IMHO, eh?

I think the trucker knew what was happening, he puts on his 4-Ways and pumps the brakes a few times.

At the end it looks like the car just... vanishes! :-O

It was sweet that the car`s wheels rotated so the tires would stay round.

Leaned back, the trucker probably didn`t notice (the trucker seat has springs/shocks) except that a little drag as the cruise revved the engine to maintain velocity.

You know that "If you can`t see my mirrors, I can`t see you." sign on the back of the truck?
Yeah, it works that way out of the front, too.

It`s awesome that almost all cars in the East Block countries have dash cams.
