It`s pointing out the fallacy pro-gun people tout that having a gun protects you. Most of the time, having a gun puts a person in MORE danger because it makes people more likely to get into dangerous situations with a false sense of invulnerability. Not to mention being available to accidents, curious children, suicides, being taken and used against them, etc.

Like it wasn`t going to go there without me. You can`t tell me to GTFO if you believe in FREE SPEECH. Sorry you can`t handle evidence that having a gun won`t actually keep a person from being shot and killed. Everyone knows this, but still clings to the fantasy. Kind of like religion. Oh, no. Now I`ll get accused of religion-bashing!

lauriloo, you`re being intentionally dumb. Sometimes having a gun helps you, like if a burglar breaks into your house or a rapist tries to rape you and you happen to have your gun ready, and sometimes they shoot first. It`s simple logic.

Once again, there are gun control societies that are both unsafe and safe, while there are societies where guns are ubiquitous that are both unsafe and safe. People really seem to hate critical analysis. The murder rate dropped by more than 50% in America in the 1990`s. Why? Not guns, it`s almost like there are external factors. When Britain and Australia banned guns, the murder rate remains effectively unchanged. Why? It`s almost like there are other external factors that affect this sort of shiite.

Seriously, I`m tired of people not using critical analysis.

Wanna make a bet the gun the guy was shot with was illegal. Now tell me how criminal obey laws. People defend themselves with guns all the time you don`t hear about it because you can`t push an agenda with that WAKE UP! Don`t like guns don`t f**king buy one but don`t cram your pussifacation head in the sand utopia on everyone you won`t like where that goes.

What a stupid comment: "It`s pointing out the fallacy pro-gun people tout that having a gun protects you. Most of the time, having a gun puts a person in MORE danger because it makes people more likely to get into dangerous situations with a false sense of invulnerability." Really Then explain the national stats that an estimated 2 million people in the U.S. protect themselves from robbery, assault, rape, or murder each year? That`s right, 2 million... The funny part? This statistic comes from a study put into action by Democrats who were searching for data to prove more restrictive gun laws were needed... The result? Well let`s just say they didn`t publish the report they were hoping hope... Sorry, far, far, far more lives are SAVED by guns, despite your rhetoric.

Meh, most folks beat me to it. It`s not the guns. It`s the culture. The mentality.

If that does not change, you will live in a potentially violent environment regardless. The only thing that will change is that you will have option of self defense less.

"Really Then explain the national stats that an estimated 2 million people in the U.S. protect themselves from robbery, assault, rape, or murder each year?"

That`s 0.6% of your population. That`s a tiny number, even if it`s true (you neglect to actually name the study you`re citing).

This is what police officers face pretty much from the time they hit the street til the time they go home for the day.

This is why I get so defensive when all cops are grouped together for the actions of some. I`ll never deny that there are bad cops and there always will be. But there are way more cops like this guy out there. Problem is it`s not the type of stories the media wants to run.

It`s not guns that are the problem. It`s the environment and culture that the majority of criminals are raised in.

    @lauriloo

Troll much? Don`t get all defensive and cry free speech after you`re called on it. @Pooptart19 had as much right to tell you to GTFO as you did making your stupid comment in the first place. If you`re gonna troll be ready for the backlash that comes with it.

Absolutely correct. Some cultures are responsible with weapons, and some are not.

The anti-gun view agrees: and suggests that maybe those cultures who are irresponsible with weapons shouldn`t have access to them.

I attempted to look up your study and believe I found it. Your 2 million is extrapolated from 50 people out of 4,798 people telephone surveyed who said they used a gun to prevent a crime. The guy couldn`t confirm if that included people who simply had a gun in their hand when they went out to investigate whether someone was outside their home. OR, whether the same person reported multiple incidents. 54% of the defensive use was essentially just someone saying "I`ve got a gun."

The Police have established themselves as the enemy. Warrantless searches and random murders by police and other agencies has resulted in a case of "Don`t trust the cops.". Sadly, the cops have done NOTHING to lose the reputation of "Jack-Booted thugs". Of course, it`s hard to lose that title when you are a jack-booted thug.

Sadly, no good dead goes unpunished.

I would like to see what this kid turns into in 20 years. I hope he keeps that day in the back of his mind at all time.

Might sound mean but if that officer is the reason that kid becomes and NBA all star then didn`t that officer complete his mission: to make a difference, even if it is only to 1 person.

"I would like to see what this kid turns into in 20 years. I hope he keeps that day in the back of his mind at all time. "

I think it will make a huge difference. I still remember certain things adults told me when I was a little kid that make me a better person today. Raised my standards, made me honest, care about animals and the environment, have empathy, etc. etc. Every time I pour a pop or beer with a small amount of foam I think of my Great Uncle Fred teaching me how to properly get beer out of a keg when I was a little kid. People think kids forget what adults do around them but they remember things better than adults do. So be careful.

This is a very sad story, we hear so much about the bad cops from the media that most people rarely take the time to appreciate the good ones, which make up the majority of LEOs.

Kid goes in with one dollar for 99 cent cookies, finds out there`s state tax of 8%, asks someone. I did that as a kid 40 years ago, fault the kid? PLEASE grow up.

Sorry. Let me clarify. You can`t tell me to GTFO and expect anything to actually happen because there`s not an electron microscope strong enough to measure the tiny amount that your opinion matters to me. Is that better? I would say I don`t care at all but an absolute vacuum is impossible.

the most important thing i got from that message was that one dude was doing the right thing by assisting a kid he didnt have to and unrelated to this, lost his live. The kid is now taking the advice and behaviour of this one dude as a guide.. In a way he uses that dude as a role model.

To me, that is beauty in itself, this dude, though heinous his death may be, reached immortality in the heart of a kid, and with this showing, in the hearts of many an other too..
I salute this dude and i hope the kid sees it true keeping this as his rolemodel.

i think a common used phrase in this could be `pay it foreward`
