Texas abortion law puts the limit at 5 months. 5 months, yes. In France, the limit is 12 weeks. In Germany, 12 weeks plus mandatory counseling and a waiting period. In Holland, it`s about the same as what this Texas bill will make it, 5 months.

    5 months.

    5 months.

As well as regulations for safety so women don`t die like in Gosnell`s clinic. Oh no! Clinics that don`t meet the standard are actually going to have to make themselves safer??? Imagine if we used that logic about food safety or any number of things.

If this is restrictive, people don`t know what oppression is.

We are supposed to believe 5 months is restrictive.

5 months has been called "return of the American Taliban".

I think we could tell the difference easily if it was 21 weeks along and that`s what the Texas law is protecting. Bet you most of the abortion absolutists would have a fit if someone did a partial birth abortion procedure on an elephant baby.

I`m an open minded, liberal conservative. I have no religious prejudices. Yet I have never heard a compelling argument in favour of abortion. Contractiption is so easy and affordable. It`s laughable that anyone would be dumb enough to have an unwanted baby.

Justify it all you want. In the back of your mind you know it`s a baby. A living human person.

madduck - nothing in life is 100%. To use that as a standard to justify killing babies is ridiculous. And yes, there is ONE contraceptive that is 100% effective...abstinence. But even I`m not fool enough to think people will stop having sex! I just ask that we act like adults and live up to the consequences of our actions. AHA! That`s the problem! People want the fun of adults, without the consequences. Instead of asking for an "easy out".

    Heterosexual sex = babies.
    That is the biological function.
To deny that is to deny reality.
If you make the ADULT choice to engage in ADULT activity then you must face the ADULT consequences. But killing a baby because it`s inconvenient for you is a sin. I`m not religious, but that is a sin.

actually normalfreakman, you should stop reading the liberal blogs for getting your information. Texas clinics aren`t being shut down, they are being made safer. And if a clinic doesn`t meet the standard, they won`t be able to perform procedures that sometimes kill or injure the women. Food producers also have to meet high standards. So do all other doctors and hospitals. As well as food vendors. Come on, man. It`s like you`re the pro-choice Aiken.

If 5 months is a draconian cut off date and your definition of the American Taliban, you are all diluted.

madduck, all of my friends who had abortions definitely didn`t use contraception. Abortions are usually out of irresponsible behavior. And this is how we arrive at the true Eugenics origin of abortion, these girls would have really made terrible mothers and the babies would be predisposed to this and that. Not all, but many. It is eugenics in this sense, rightly or wrongly.

so you have no religious justifications to condem a child or it`s parents to a life of suffering should the baby have a an untreatable disease, or handicap. what then gives you the authority to say abortus is wrong becuase "it`s life" To me it`s quite simple if you can`t take care of yourself or never wil be able to, then you die.

"all of my friends who had abortions definitely didn`t use contraception. Abortions are usually out of irresponsible behavior."

Sounds to me you hang out with a bunch of losers and that doesn`t qualify you to call all people who have an abortion irresponsible, there is an 11 year old rape victim in Chile, both her and her "child" are in great risk. Not having an abortion is irrisponsible behaviour in that case.
personaly i know of a few people who had to make the descicion to terminate a fetus that was braindamaged/ permantly ill. what idiotic reason can you find to justify to chain those parents to a life of financel hardship, and 24 hour a day healthcare work besides the responsibility of raising another kid, having jobs being partners?
No seriously Who The F**k Are You to make that decision?

whiny f ucking pro abortion always pull out the rape victims and the abused girls when they try to justify abortion, but really, most of the aborted babies just come from pregnancys that could have easily been prevented. I`m agreeing with Gerry 100% on this one. And until women who turn up for abortions get shown the myriad of videos of babies ripped apart, babies on ultrasound trying to wriggle away from an abortionists instruments, etc etc and are fully informed that what they are actually doing is forcibly and knowingly killing an infant,, who will grow to be a person, just like them, and that they will most likely regret this decision for the rest of their f ucking lives, and they they will be seen as less than human and basically murderers by anyone with a shred of morals, and they will most likely lessen their chances of conceiving again, then let them roll on up for those abortions.

idiotic anti abortionist can`t even come up with a single decent argument. Don`t impose your moral or religious standards onto others. get a good argument or shut your pathetic trap. ooh no poor baby! really? if you claim to care about life so much then wtf have you done to stop those thousands of children dying of hunger war and disease? do you help out parents who have been unfortunate enough to get a dissabled child? nope didn`t think so. so shove it where the sun don`t shine with your double standard morals.

While it`s a foetus, and it`s not conscious, anything that happens is the woman`s perogative. Why can`t it exist at one point and be given value at some later time? I`ve never heard any worthwhile argument against this.

And yet if someone ended the life of this elephant fetus they`d probably do more jail time than if they did the same to a human being. I am not for taking away anyone`s human rights but I ask you, who is defending those that cannot defend themselves? Someone defended your life when you were at this same stage of development, yet so many gladly deny the same defense to others. Is that justice?

Gery, you ask for reasons and then when two are presented and you disagree with those reasons, But. you didnt ask for arguments that would change your vieuwpoint, mere reasons.

I could name other reasons, like any form of rape to begin.

The most important thing i think is that we educate our kids so they know that abortion isnt like sexual protection like condoms. Nor should it be seen as a solution for a problem that doesnt have to be there.

But, abortion in case of rape? or abortion if the mother did what she could and still got pregnant? or abortion if the child would otherwise have no reall chance of a decent life?
And on that last one, maybe we should work harder on giving the disabled a decent chance in life too.. but then, that is socialism for you and we know how a lot of people dont seem to like (understand?) that.

    Andrew155,
I understand your belief that the new regulations are designed to make clinics safer but, in reality, it`s a situation of requiring financially restrictive upgrades to clinics that are already safe in order to justify closing them when they no longer meet the new requirements.

You say don`t impose our morals on you but isn`t allowing abortion an imposition of your morals? Women always say it`s "their body, their choice" but that baby would not be there if not for a man being involved. Women can chose to have an abortion, but a man can`t chose to opt out of child support.

@Andrew Actually I`m not for abortion at all. I was merely making light of the situation. Their definition of accessible isn`t the same as the dictionary word of accessible. At least not until more facilities are included.

I mean Abortion is one of those cloudy issues for me. I find all life to be extraordinary. The fact you or I are here to argue this is testament to that. If I had the opportunity to decide whether or not I wanted to live I think everyone deserves that chance. Your life is yours. The problem is us. We allow people to live in squalor, then i feel bad for the kids that die of starvation or because their parents don`t know how to take care of them. It`s just murky waters. I find myself supporting both sides of the aisle on this issue.

If you oppose abortion based on Christian morals then you are completely clueless as to your own instruction manual.

The Bible clearly states, multiple times, that life begins when the first breath is drawn.

The "Breath of Life" is when the soul enters the body and not before.

An egg is NOT a chicken.
An acorn is NOT an oak tree.
And an embryo is NOT a human being.

Any termination of a fetus from continuing gestation is considered abortion including miscarriage. Women who are against abortion have probably actually had one or two without their knowledge. With willful terminations or anything else there will always be people who abuse a system but does that mean we should take it away from people who actually need it?

I like how people get mad because some don`t want humans aborted. We are all human. What if your parents had made that choice?
We were all embryos at one time. It`s as though you`re fighting what you now are. If abortions weren`t wrong, people wouldn`t feel guilty about it.
