Aah, so where @ and & don`t have specific pronunciations of their own since they`re symbols rather than letters, Ћ is actually a Serbian Cyrillic letter representing a sound similar to the ch sound in "chew." So "Ћ man threw Ћ ball at Ћ face of Ћ llama" would actually sound more like "Ch man threw ch ball at ch face of ch llama."

I liked this, but then again, I am strange and weird. I would use it, but I can`t figure out how to type it.

@ MeGrendel: Now now now. I happen to like Michael Moore a lot. But let`s not go there; I wanna keep this a fun thread.

Actually, I was thinking one of you conservatives was going to say:
HERE`s the perfect Liberal F*cktard symbol: =^.^=
LOL!

Yeah, imagine if he had this key on his puter...

I like how several of you have risen to Gerry`s "F*ck Off And Die" symbol challenge. Very creative bunch you are!

On a related note: Ollie, I think you need a "Liberal F*cktard" symbol. That would save you 300 keystrokes a day, at least. =^.^=

I doth agree, `thee` is pleasantly romantic ;-)

I`ve always pronounced `the` as more of a.."thuh"
"
When I hear Thee I think of "Shall I compare thee to a summer`s day?" (Hot as f**k)

God how I hated how he was saying `the`... anyone else think it should sound more like the e in `her` instead of like the e in `tree`?

What`s the ASCII code for that symbol? Is this guy going to volunteer to update every font in existence? Just curious.

I love archaic words, I am completely going to start using ye instead of the. This is going to be so much fun. Except, I can`t seem to think of anything that needs an article that requires the. Boo. Ye day after tomorrow is ye overmorrow. Yhey are going to go to ye nail salon overmorrow. Damn it`s just like learning dvorak.

Well, & is a squishing together of the Latin word "et", which means "and". @ is a squishing together of the Latin word "ad", meaning "at" or "to." We already had a faster way of writing "the," anyway: "Ye." The `Y` was originally a symbol referred to as a "thorn" representing a hard "th" sound, but printers didn`t have a thorn on hand and so used a `Y` since it looked closest. We migrated away from `Y` to "th" by the late 19th century.

In other words, saying "let`s sit down and decide how people are going to write" isn`t how language works. Unless it`s Korean. Or French to an extent. Or modern Latin. Or possibly some other languages I`m unfamiliar with. But that`s definitely not how English works.

drawman61-"And why is abbreviation such a long word?"

For the same reason the fear of long words is called `hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia` and the world `Lisp` has an `s` in it.

"Why do you talk funny?"

"I have a Lith".

"A Lith?"

"No! A lith!?!?! DAMMIT!"

I would`ve said dumb once but now that typing/texting is everywhere maybe it should have it`s own key...as well as &.

And why is abbreviation such a long word?

Except "and" is used in every other language in the world, even those that don`t use prepositions have words for "or" and "and". For ex we don`t have the concept "the" in finnish at all(we also don`t have "he" or "she" separately just one word for both sexes but that`s another matter..). All the "of", "as" "in" etc are attached to end of words..

Just a funny fact, the symbol "&" is commonly pronounced as "and" instead of our own word for it "ja".. So growing up i learned that the symbol was named "and-symbol" :)

@swaywithme something tells me you werent being very sincere. there was a very definite lack <3 and :) you always give gerry a <3 no im not jealous. that would be absurd. being jealous of a 50 year old gay man who ive never met because hes getting more attention than me from a pretty girl who i also have never met on an internet site would be just be absolutely insane. right?

"&" uses a shift + the number 5. If his new symbol is using a shift, it takes too long to be used effectively. I type fast enough where "the" is quick and second nature. Do we really need more shortcuts for people who can`t type?

"The" is only three letters. It takes a two-button key-in to do a symbol. You`re only saving one keystroke.

Why not have a symbol that represents LONG words such as "Computer" or "internet" or "telecommunication", etc...

@ Gerry: LOL. Well, first you have to come up with some kind of a symbol for that. Any ideas?

You still have to make the T and the h.
Does not writing the e save you that much time?

How about a keyboard symbol for FOffAndDie ?
I`d use that a lot.

I would never use that. As it is, capital 7 is much harder to use than "and".

I can`t say I`m either for or against this idea. I do think I`d find it helpful if there were some kind of diacritical mark used to indicate whether "the" should be pronounced "thuh" or "thee." Having to look a word ahead to make that determination is a little awkward.

The last thing we need is to shorten language any further. Kid`s communication skills have already taken a steep dive in the past 50 years. "unles u wnt to c evry 1 tlk lk this, stp being so fckin lazy".

Ever the activist Mr Squrl :) I like it, but I always forget to use the & symbol when I`m typing, can`t say I`d remember to bother with that.
