To quote George Orwell from his novel "1984" -

"War is Peace. Freedom is Slavery. Ignorance is Strength."

Take away a little at a time and most won`t notice. Freedoms, that is.
And a lot of you thought he didn`t think of himself as a king...

Um, this is just saying the government has the right to take over communication networks in time of emergency to preserve the infrastructure and coordinate emergency services (did anyone have any doubts that they would anyway?)... and you people automatically go to "spying"? lol. Where were you people when the patriot act was passed? I`m not naive enough to think that we`re not being spied upon but geez, I`m surprised you people haven`t sued the man in the moon for looking through your bedroom window at night.

And no, the emergency broadcast system is not even remotely the same thing - that`s just a notification to the people that something`s going on.

It`s a step in an uncomfortable direction sure, but not like the sky is falling.

You`re quite right, Reignblazer, but little steps is how it`s done. Even Adolf Hitler saw that.

@emmettyville: Depending on which version you read? The IDIOTS who blindly believed Chicken Little (Like Ducky Lucky, or Goosey Loosey) THEY got eaten by Foxy Loxy.
In either case, they never did get to "warn the King" that the sky was falling.

@HalfPintRoo: Um, yes.
By "executive order" too! Which means: Obama Dictates Thusly!

All I`m reading here is that the government is setting up a joint entity to make sure they have access to communication in the case of an emergency.

Like, if the zombie apocalypse happened, they would have a group of people working directly with Verizon to be able to stay in touch with all local governments and such.

So wait- does the government decide when it`s a "national crisis" and when they can take our rights away?

what a bunch of BS, govs/military have private networks they can use. all this does is takes away communication from citizens, like say if people started rallying to kick out the evil dictators that run the world.. pretty obvious.

This is horrible. When Egypt first tried to overthrow their dictator, the first thing he did was take down the internet and all cellphone communications. I fear for our future.

I get annoyed when the Emergency Defense System tests break into a tv program I`m watching but I don`t think it means the gov is oppressing me, lol.

I`ll admit to only having scanned over it but the general gist of it seems to say `we made a piece of legislation that allows us to take over private internet in times of national crisis`.

It`s a step in an uncomfortable direction sure, but not like the sky is falling.
