So you`re aware then that crapple stole their iphone design from the LG Prada, then sued other companies over the design i.e. rectangular with touch screen?

lauriloo,
Looks to me like you`re TRYING not to get my point and I`m guessing that it`s because you think I`m trying to knock your beloved Apple products. I`m not. I don`t care enough, for one thing, and enough people love them that I`m sure there`s plenty good to be said for them.
Don`t know that it`s true but remember this?

broizfam- maybe you don`t understand the concept of competitive advantage. Do you work on cars? Even *I* know I have to know the year, make and model of my car to get the proper parts for it. Some things are more generic but many more things aren`t. I`ve put third party stuff like graphics cards, hard drives and ram... even upgraded the motherboard in one MacPro... in my Macs so it`s not THAT locked up. There are other places to get music if you don`t like iTunes. I just don`t see your point. AND, I understand a little about patents and the history of Apple so I don`t agree with you about the patent stuff, either. P&G has tons of patents about making toilet paper that you would think are trivial tweaks to current methods but they are still valid and defensible. And many things haters claim about how Apple got ideas simply aren`t true.

It`s not that they treat the consumer like children, it`s just that you are buying an overall solution, rather than a machine to customize. It`s like buying a ferrari vs a muscle car. You DON`T tinker with a Ferrari. It`s not designed for it. A muscle car is something you go aftermarket with an swap transmissions, it`s perfect for tinkering. I used to love to tinker & swap parts in my old computers.
Eventually, working full time took over and I just want the damn thing to work.
I had a job where we had to produce programming 365 days a year, twice a day. The Powermac G5 we used crashed 3 times. Total. Ever. In 1 year, and I suspect it was an overheating issue. My 2007 iMac, which I have ripped apart, customized & put back together runs like a dream, even full of cracked software. I just never had that experience with a PC. Ever.

lauriloo, I didn`t say anything about Microsoft because the post, and what we`ve been talking about, is Apple products. I don`t care why you, or anyone, buys Apple products...if you like their products that`s great! Buy and enjoy them, by all means. What I was saying is that corporations do force us, at times, to buy from them in a way that we don`t think of as force. As a hypothetical example, IF I wanted to upload music to my PC and Microsoft not only made the only program I could do that with but also disallowed other companies from offering a compatible program then I would be forced to buy and use their program. This is how corporations "force" us (maybe "entice" would be a better word but, I think, not really strong enough) to pay them more. What I feel is unethical about Apple is that they have a long history of using ideas they didn`t originate, which I don`t find objectionable, but then suing others for doing the same with what they say was their idea.

"True, Lauriloo, but it`s not that he can`t work on Macs or that he`s not good at it... he just tells me the troubles the owners go through, the poo he has to go through as the tech, and how much money/time it costs the owner(s)... that`s all."

Anecdotes are interesting but aren`t facts. I`ve been using Macs for over 30 yrs and MY experience is that their initial cost is worth it because they have far fewer issues than other computers I`ve had. I`ve had to get service maybe 5-7 times in that 30 yrs and Apple has fixed it for free (even out of warranty) or for a very low fee (e.g., $250 to replace an entire motherboard out of warranty). Another reason to never use a non-Apple service. I have heard hundreds of similar positive anecdotes so I just don`t put much stock in your husband`s stories. Not saying Apple is perfect but, by my experience, I don`t want any other computer, ever.

They`re just better for different things. However I dislike Apple`s greedy "It`s ours even though you paid for it" mentality. Why can`t I remove an iPhone`s battery? Why can`t I open my MacBook? Why can`t I get replacement parts? Why can I have no choice in what goes in it?

They treat consumers like children, and then act like children themselves when dealing with competitors. I dislike their business practices, so I don`t buy Apple; I like variety and doing things myself. I don`t care much for Micro$hit`s business practices either, but I guess in the evil of two lessers, they are the lesser of two evils. I`d switch to Linux right now if I was more inclined to learn the coding behind it, but I`m just waiting for Linux to be more mainstream with things like Steam and whatnot.

I don`t use Apple products for one reason... iTunes. I work in the tech industry as a developer and I cannot understand how they got away with such a piece of crap application. No one I know who uses Mac products has good things to say about iTunes. It either won`t let them do what they want, loses their stuff, or just generally is slow and hard to use.

Can not agree more with this post.. I have Mac pro for 2 reasons.. One, I am really tired of PC crap. I had to replace a laptop every 2 years. second, I never had one before and I am Tech-savy guy and obsessed with having STUFF.. However, if people (Apple product owners) agree to stop buying Apple`s products for 6 months I will be the first to agree to it until they give more user freedom of using universal hardware and ability to service and upgrade products. It sounds like the Arabic spring movement..... My MacBook pro is strong machine but screw apple

broizfarm- you`ve proven my point about you not understanding why I buy Apple products. Absolutely no force involved. I can buy a Mac through a variety of sources. I could even make a hackintosh but can`t think of a single good reason to do that. You don`t know what you are talking about when you haven`t owned a Mac. I`ve owned both, continue to use both, so I know exactly what the difference is and why I make the decisions I make. How you can call Apple unethical and say nothing about Microsoft`s stranglehold on corporate life boggles my mind. MANY more people feel locked into a Windows/Office environment than people in a Mac environment, especially considering through Bootcamp or emulation I can easily do both on a whim. The MacOS platform is way more flexible to own than Windows.

Weak argument, lauriloo. Corporations don`t force you by coming to your house, they do it by giving you no other choice but to use only their services/products once you have bought into them. Of course you can choose to change equipment or not get the extra services but, if you want them and can only do so through them, that is corporate force. I have nothing against Apple products, I just use something else. I do think Apple, as a corporate entity, is somewhat less ethical than many but that`s another thing, altogether.

I have issue with you using the word "force". Nobody "forces" me to do anything I don`t want to. My experience with Apple products is so superior to what I`ve had with other brands, I WANT to do what I need to to have one. THAT`S what Apple haters will never understand. You have never experienced that excellence so you can`t relate to it. I`ve had my current MacPro since 2008. Nobody has "forced" me to upgrade to a new one. I have a 4S iPhone and will probably switch carriers when the 5S comes out. No biggie that I have to buy a couple new chargers, it`s worth it. I can sell my old 4S to make up for it because iPhones hold their value better.

"People lined up around the block for a hole-in-the-wall unknown restaurant and that would instantly inform the average person that there is amazing food being made there they should try."
People line up around the block to spend $180 for a pair of sneakers. People line up to see the image of Christ in a cheese sandwich.
If you like MACs, enjoy them in good health. If you like PCs, the same. The only thing negative I can say about Apple products is that it does appear that Apple is prone to force you to use/buy more of their products/services/etc. at a greater expense than you may otherwise have had, once you invest in their equipment. A simple example: iPhone4 and iPhone5 have different power inputs. You upgrade to a 5 and you need a new home charger, a new car charger, maybe a new iHome. No reason they couldn`t have used the same charger but they wouldn`t have made as much money that way and that, after all, is the corporate bottom line.

This thread is really going, lol! I`ve worked on macs a number of times, but prefer PC. I remember the day i brought my IBM thinkpad up to my buddy`s place asking if i could use his iworks cd to get imovie. He looked at my laptop, then at me and said "you`re joking right?". I opened the lid, turned it on and showed him the apple logo as it booted into mac osx. The look on his face as i said "no" and clicked the apple menu was sort of priceless. hackintosh worked really well on that good old IBM, made me see the light that it doesn`t really matter, they`re all just computers.. pc, mac.. all the same these days.

I`ve only had PCs. I`m used to them and happy with them. Never tried a MAC. Could probably get used to them and be happy with them, too. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. So what? That`s no different from pretty much anything else you buy, when there`s a choice to be made. The biggest difference I`ve seen between them is that, in my experience, the MAC fanboys are bigger a$$h*les about MAC superiority than the PC fanboys are about PC superiority.

Never bought an Apple, or an IPod, and never will. Why? It`s over-priced and stupid. Why would I pay for an Iphone that forces me to buy more things.. that I can get on Android for free? I hate the arrogance of apple and all of it`s cult like idiotic followers. Maybe I don`t want an Alpha Romeo. I want a CAR. A decent, reliable, well made CAR that will get me where I need to Go, doesn`t cost me extra money, and doesn`t make me look like a douche bag more concerned with how I LOOK to the chicks than performance

@TkngDwn You`re wrong about the Mac Pro. The chassis is very robust. The layout is clean & simple. No cables (excluding 1st gen Intel Mac Pro). The HP doesn`t even come close. Plastic everywhere. Cheap. Flimsy. And retails with same specs for same price. Maybe $200 difference... if that.

What I`m describing (lacking all the detail) is an environment where you NEED to have 50 workstations able to swap information/assets with extremely demanding software (Avid Media Composer) You can lock-out a bunch of stuff, sure, but you also can`t lock too much so the software can`t function. This is a professional application of Windows Vs Mac where you NEED to have the hardware working and downtime directly translates to missing a deadline & lost money. I`ve worked in shops that are Mac & PC, the Apple places never have nearly the same or frequent problems. Period. This isn`t theory... I`ve lived it. Many, many times.

@ rickwhite:

Your second reason is completely and utterly wrong. HP products do implement the same planned obsolescence that Apple products do. However, there are much better brands of workstations out there. As far as software goes, well, you can easily force OSX to run on any modern hardware. Emulating the EFI system (replacement for BIOS) is relatively easy.

I take great issue with your first and third reasons as well. (As they`re basically the same thing.) The unix subsystem allows for easier task scheduling for maintenance and is less prone to crashing. This same exact system is in place on every since distro of linux. And in fact, linux is far easier to manage on a large scale. Not to mention it`s much more robust and cheaper to implement. The issues you team experiences with Windows are likely due to the fact that you either have:
a) Stupid and/or Under-equipped IT personnel that are unable to secure the box.
b) Stupid users that try to circumvent

Every IT guy I`ve ever talked to HATES Apple, and LOVES... Linux. But Windows 7 "isn`t bad--best Windows OS so far."

It`s interesting to note 3 things:
1) The company I work for has 50 Avid Edit suites. All Wintel Boxes. All Enterprise class HP workstations. There is a staff of 5 FULLTIME employees managing them and they are in a constant state of problems, software, hardware conflicts, etc etc. There are 75 employees using Apple (Administration) there is 1, ONE, fulltime IT guy managing 75 macs... and I rarely see him.
2) A Mac Pro is ABSOLUTELY NOT a piece of overpriced junk. The Equivalent HP workstation is priced exactly the same and is disgustingly poor with construction quality & design in comparison... and you`re stuck with Windows.
3) The IT guys hate Apple for the same reason I hated Apple before I converted... it`s not the platform you invested in. Therefore, you`ll find all the reasons in the world that it`s not as good as your choic

McGovern is right. The hardware you get for your money with apple comes with the added price of paying for that stupid glowing apple on the back, and it`s expensive. The other big issue not listed here is how apple will refuse to honor their warranty for most products claiming "abuse" as the reason they wont honor it. "Abuse" to them is apparently just using their software, or receiving a defective product such as a metal bottom with a heat glued rubber bottom that peels off after 3 months of use and sucks up all the debris it can...

Well, I will say Apple has been spotty at best since Steve died, but I have been using the same macbook pro since early 2011 and it`s seen a pretty rough life between school, military, and working EMS. It still works like it was brand new, out of the box. I can`t say that about any Windows PC I or my family have ever owned, and there have been many, running every version of Windows from 2-7. I don`t agree with Apple`s new practice of making their computers nearly impossible to upgrade (put new ram in mine myself). But I enjoy the ecosystem. I use an iPhone as well and who doesn`t have an iPod these days? When I need something else I have an old windows computer kicking around and even have a netbook with Linux. Different OS`s are good for different people. If you like it and can afford it, why not buy it?

Wendypants- with all due respect, just because your husband is a "computer technician" doesn`t mean he is good at working on Macs. If he is a hater, he will never enjoy working on Macs and will over inflate any experience working on them to justify his hate. That`s why I only use the Genius Bar or a Apple-authorized service place because taking it anywhere else generally means you are asking a pc person to fumble around pretending they know how to work on a Mac. One possible exception is a decent Geek Squad tech but even then, I wouldn`t ask a Chevy tech to work on my Mercedes. Thankfully, my Macs very rarely have issues.

My husband = computer technician and he`s worked on pretty much everything... so when he tells me Apple/Mac products suck and are a HUGE waste of money I take his word for it...
almost every day - and at least once a week - he`d come home with lovely horror stories of the poo Mac users have to deal with for repairs and such (and the cost!!).
So, yeah, if you don`t like it don`t buy it... but there are very good reasons why Apple gets slagged so often.

Apple Inc. has repeatedly lied to it`s customers since the 1980`s. I know from experience. When the first Macintosh computer first came out, Steve Jobs said, "Apple ][ forever" after he was asked if they would still build and support their original creation.

After that lie, I`ve never trusted him or Apple ever again. Warn everyone possible about their continuous lies and anti-competitive practices, eventually their reputation will sink so low they`ll either change or go out of business. Hope for the later.

Apple is a shady company.

I work for Sears currently, while getting my degree in Computer Science, and Apple had made a deal with Sears.
Sears was to get rid of their ancient IBM computers and switch them with iPads. The iPads could scan barcodes, take credit cards, look up info for products, etc.
Sears would get a deal for buying them in bulk, only there was a catch; Sears wanted to sell the iPads to consumers. Apple said "Sorry, we can`t let you do that."

Sears will be implementing the deal with Android tablets.

Some of the bigger Sears do use iPads, but most will be switching to Android tablets.

No, I don`t think any of this is worth getting angry about. But let`s be real: The title of this post is "Apple Says F*ck You." Don`t you think that kind of set the tone here?

With an exception or two, I think most of the people who responded negatively to this post are not angry so much as they are simply exasperated at seeing yet another long-winded anti-Apple rant.

Not at all. I`m merely pointing out that some people are acting offended to the point of being angry. Read through the comments; there are accusations of douchebags, fools, and people needing to get a life.

Can you honestly tell me that you think those are appropriate responses to a graphic saying that something you own sucks? I think it`s a child`s reaction - not that of an adult.

If someone were to disagree with a point, or poke fun at it, or argue it, that`s all well and good. However, some people have clearly become emotional about some "bad words" about something they own by an anonymous author.

Let me ask, do you think having a decidedly angry and emotional response to this is appropriate?

Some of the comments here are actually attacking other people; that`s ridiculous. There is no need to get so upset over a product.

What percent chance do you think there is that the author sits down and reads all of these comments? I think it`s pretty slim. So, sitting here being all offended about words regarding a product you bought seems rather silly.

Here, let`s consider a similar situation to explain how ridiculous you all are being. I have a pair of socks on from Puma. Some random person makes a 1300 word graphic about how much Puma and Puma socks suck. So, I go to a bunch of people on the internet and comment how much all of the haters suck and are douchebags and fools.

I don`t think it`s a weird universe to not be offended every time someone doesn`t like the things I bought. Is it a normal universe to get offended so easily?

No, it indicates just how mindless people really are and that they will buy whatever is popular no matter the cost or actual usability. I would much rather own a computer that I can upgrade and repair, instead of forking out three times the price for something that will be outdated in two years. I would also rather own something that works well with a variety of peripherals, not just others made by the same company.

I have used Apple products and I would never pay money to own any of them. I was given an iPod years ago. It was ok but the other mp3 players I`d had before were just as good or better, and a lot cheaper.

These anti-Apple rants remind of that phase that some young adults go through when they hate their parents. If you don`t like the product, don`t buy it. Get off the soapbox and grow up already.

seriously how psycho do you have to be to one actually care that much about what other people buy and two, spend the time to write this crap up.

"Assuming every word is true, it still won`t stop the fanboys from paying up."

Which *should* indicate how much better the Apple experience is, but people like you would never want to consider that possibility. People lined up around the block for a hole-in-the-wall unknown restaurant and that would instantly inform the average person that there is amazing food being made there they should try. But if it`s Apple, it *must be* blind devotion for no reason, lol.

So buy a pc and shut up. What a lot of effort to slate a product... I`ve upgraded both the RAM and hardrive on my macbook pro and it`s in perfect working order after almost 5 years. I love it. I write a shed-load of music on it, and the Dell that my girlfriend uses is a truly horrible machine. I wouldn`t buy one of those fancy new ones to be fair, but they`re not for someone like me who takes things apart from time to time.

The sad thing is....somebody spent all this time justifying their hatred of a company whose products they don`t own... as if people who actually own and love Apple products care what they think. I make excellent money with my Apple products and I spend countless hours of my free time being entertained via them. I HATE using Windows products and feel no compelling reason to switch to a fragmented Android product. So, haters, save your breath. We DON`T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. We DON`T CARE WHAT ELECTRONICS YOU CHOOSE TO USE. is that finally clear enough? get a life.

I had a macbook once before, the poor design decision resulted in a *highly important* ribbon cable being exposed right where the upgradeable hard drive metal casing slid by.. after the hard drive upgrade, we couldn`t figure out why it wouldn`t turn on.. after many hours of looking, we finally figured out that the metal casing of the hdd bay had clipped the ribbon cable, and it just so happened to sever the power signal line. This wasn`t everything though. It turned out that ribbon cable was part of the whole keyboard, and the ribbon cable itself couldn`t be replaced, the whole keyboard, the top part of the open laptop had to be replaced. 50 bucks later it was working again. First thing i did was format it, re-install it, and sold it. Almost broke even, but swore never again.

Managed to get a free ipod touch last year, and it`s not too bad, but it`s just an around the house gadget. android goes out with me.

no to apple.

You CAN drag-n-drop music onto an Apple device. You do NOT have to do a full synch.

Don`t like it. Don`t buy it.

I don`t even understand why is this up for discussion. Buy it. Don`t buy it. Someone who hates Apple will agree with all this and never buy any of their products. Someone who loves Apple will disagree with most of this and buy the products anyway.

I am a dedicated Apple user, and love their products. Very happy with them. And I switched after using PC`s (Some I built myself) for years.

Currently, I work in the Television industry Video Editing on a HP 420Z ($3000 enterprise class professional video workstation) w 16GB ram, 8 Core Xeon & Windows 7 running Avid Media Composer 6.5--FRESH install by our IT guys. It can barely keep up with my 5 year old iMac with only 4GB Ram and dual core Proc. The PC is sluggish, buggy, and crashes at least once per use. The iMac... no problems. Maybe one crash per year. Maybe.

So... yeah. I guess I`m that "snob" that just wants to not lose half a days work on a $3000 system that is supposedly &

This sums up my feelings towards Apple perfectly. That`s why I don`t buy any of their sh*t and I don`t even allow anyone to bring their poo into my home.
