Yes, it`s legal... Aussie rules Football is one rough sport.
I think there are only 2 major on-the-field conduct rules: no elbowing and no tackling below the knees. ANYTHING else on the field is good to go!

Australian not many rules football would be a more accurate description of the sport :)

Yes, it`s legal. AF is flipping awesome. If we had it in the states I`d watch!

Aussie rules, where the only ones who wear pads are the Ref and the audience.

AFL players are incredibly fit, they play on a 150m long field, and run at least 12km a game, whilst kicking, punching and passing the ball, and tackling/getting tackled

I`m just impressed that this guy could jump high enough to put his knees on the other guy`s shoulders!

It`s not Rugby, it`s AFL, or Aussie Rules, and as far as I know (not an AFL fan) this is perfectly legal and actually a pretty big part of the game.

Thanks for clarifying that it`s AFL and not Rugby. I was thinking to myself that whatever country was playing it had some strange ass uniforms!

I know Rugby, but not AFL.

I played rugby for 2 years, and there`s not rule against it, as far as I know. He didn`t intend to hurt the guy or tackle him. Had he tried to tackle him without the balloon, it would have been called.

If you notice his eyes, they never leave the balloon. I have a feeling he didn`t realize the guy was so close to him until he made the jump and ended up on his shoulders.

Completely Legal, it`s Australian Rules Football (known as AFL), it`s normally known as a "Specky" which comes from a Spectacular Mark, where taking a Mark is catching a ball from a kick greater than 10m, sort of similar to a fair catch in NFL, but can be contested.

I -think- that`s illegal in Rugby.

But this is Australian Rules Football (AFL) so I have no idea...

That is my question too. Did he get away with it or is that a "red flag" or whatever the terminology is. Bad ass though! :-D
