BTW, the "Ho-ly crap" subtitle was changed by the mods. I do not believe in the fecal deity, as I do not believe in the god of the bible/koran.

What I wrote was that the train was mostly packed with catholic pilgrims. Perhaps they should have worshiped a more caring and less vengeful deity? What ever they were doing wasn`t working for them.

Perhaps they weren`t praying to the right god.

If you haven`t seen the other post yet...there appears to be a facebook post from the driver boasting about how fast he was going....If it is true then this was NOT an accident or driver error. The driver DELIBERATELY broke the speed limit and caused the crash..if the facebook post is true of course

Mainly: This video (which I submitted also) shows:

How fast things can go from "routine" to "nightmare"...

10 seconds.

I`ve read that the tracks were "being upgraded" to handle high-speed trains better.

Perhaps (Speculation Warning) the driver was expecting the safety systems to slow the train, but they didn`t?
Or that the track had been modified so he could go fast around that curve?
Still 100% HIS fault though, so it doesn`t really matter much.

The thing is, the train protection systems should have overriden the driver and automatically slowed the train down. There are already question marks why this didn`t happen. Perhaps that stretch of track didn`t have the highest spec safety equipment (which to be fair is extremely expensive).

From 80 to 190 is a huge margin. even if the driver was speeding it seems impossible to have done such a huge mistake

Yup two other drivers said the train was doing 190km/h...It`s looking a lot like driver error rather than mechanical failure but we`ll have to wait and see what the investigators conclude...meanwhile my condolences to the family of the victims of a terrible tragedy.

Driver was going 190 km/h. Max speed at that corner is 80 km/h.
Driver admitted speeding.
