meh, I`ll still take an independent-minded cat over a needy, "I`ll do anything you want so you`ll still feed me" dog any day. I want a pet I can respect.

@lauriloo - I don`t want this to turn into an argument or anything but it`s interesting that I see it totally opposite.

In general, a cat`s loyalty lies to whomever feeds them. I`ve never met a cat who would die trying to protect their owners but I`ve known dogs that have gone face to face with wolves to ensure the safety of their owner.

I get a pet to have a loyal friend. If I wanted someone who only cared about what is on the menu for dinner, I`d get myself another man. LoL

Ever heard of a cat killing something and bringing it as an offering to their owner? If all they cared about was their own selfish need to eat, they would just eat it then and there. Cats are credited with reducing/preventing plagues by killing rats and mice that carry it. Their hunting skills are why they are so useful around the farm. But, to each his own. At least you don`t see people being killed and maimed by a cats like they are by pit bulls.

As a kid the term "mans best friend" rang hallow with me. Then we got Bear. Dogs are truly amazing creatures. except the little ones that bark incessantly. those ones can go.

Nope, never heard of a cat mauling someone to death like a pit bull but I`ve also never heard of someone training a cat to fight to the death.

    :P

Good thing or some losers would be holding "cat fights" for money. Thankfully, cats are too smart for that.

Do your tastes in men tend more towards brawn than brains as well? My theory is people like their pets the same way as they like their mates.

    LadyMorgue,

Dog-fighting does not reflect badly on dogs, it reflects badly on people.

Fun fact the word `feisty` derives from small yappy lap-dogs and literally meant `flatulent` as lap-dogs are noted for this. It now means something like `being more assertive than your size warrants` but originally it was about dog-farts.
