    First time I`ve ever seen anyone try to apply the Hero`s Journey to Happy Gilmore, but I appreciate any attempt to explain Joseph Campbell to the laymen. This would be a better world if more people understood the role of the monomyth.

    This is largely "Ancient Greek Story Rules" applied to characters within the story as opposed to the story itself...

    Mr. Campbell didn`t invent it nor was he the first to theorize it...

    It`s still quite accurate though! And applies well to both good stories (which include the rules) and bad stories (ignores the rules).

    "Mr. Campbell didn`t invent it nor was he the first to theorize it... "

    What Campbell did was synthesize the stories, describe the framework, and popularize the concept. Jung did a lot to help him with the archetypes.

    I really think there are a lot of people who would benefit from a class in basic monomyth theory, particularly religious fundamentalists. If they were to understand both the commonality of religious figures throughout history and the principle that a religious teachings are meant to speak to the psyche shared by all people, rather than literal stories, we`d have a more harmonious world.

    @FoolsPrussia: *nod nod*
    I read some of his books during university. He`s a good writer, and seems to honestly believe what he`s writing about (Unlike Strieber, for one of many examples...).

    I found it a little "fluffy" after coming from 2 years at a fundamentalist school, but I`ve read a lot of others on similar topics (back then) and they`re good too! Just less widely known.
