Link: Joe Biden`s `Rape Prevention Tips` - A few weeks ago, Biden came up with 4 simple rules for women to avoid being raped. So, will they work?

Impressive sound effects in the #3 segment. I guess it`s more effective if you can summon up a case of the galloping trots on at will.

But McGovern... You forget that calling someone a "retard" is now considered worse than rape.

@McGovern: agreed, in fact self defense for women is the strongest argument I have heard in the great gun debate. There are many ways for a woman to avoid being in high risk situations, but a 25 auto in your purse is far more effective than a little dookie in yer shorts...

sign, It would probably be more humane to just shoot your attacker.

@chimmy - a .25? why stop there. You can easily fit a 9mm or a .40 in just about any purse these days.

What is it with the idiots we have in our government, did they skip sex education in high school or something??
I can say that the last 2 will likely get you killed before raped, I guess I`d rather be raped than dead.

Men who talk about rape like they have knowledge of it shouldn`t speak unless they have been raped.

I do not have to do anything to avoid being raped. Just like I do not have to do anything to avoid being murdered. If I am raped- or murdered it is not actually my fault. Victim blaming- how low can you go.

madduck, you`re such a weirdo. Joe Biden is blaming the victim? Tips on how to avoid getting robbed - are they also blaming the victim? How to avoid dying in a tornado? Hurricane? How to avoid your bike getting stolen? car?

It`s called advice on how to avoid bad things that can happen to anyone. To avoid getting robbed, don`t walk in bad neighborhood at night (Yes, even men!). To avoid your bike getting stolen, buy a really good bike lock. In no way does these blame the victim. You are so freaking weird.

Unless they say, "She deserved to be raped", you`re not blaming the victim. You`re just looking for stuff to do.

Izroth, by that logic, women shouldn`t talk about rape unless they have been raped. Both genders can and do get raped.

Andrew155- no, I am not. How about- she wasn`t really raped because she did not fight back your honour. She did not shoot him ( `scuse me Mr Rapist- let go of my neck a minute while I nip home and grab a gun), and more importantly- most rapes are done by people known to the victim. This means that by implying the victim `could` have taken action and didn`t, she is therefore to blame- so they are placing blame with the victim.

I think there`s a difference between it being your fault and taking smart steps to avoiding the situation in the first place. It will always be the perpetrator`s fault that someone got raped or killed but it being the perpetrators fault doesn`t help the victim in any way after it has happened. Women can`t continue doing stupid things that get them in bad situations to begin with and then whine that something bad happens. I`m not putting on a meat suit and going out in the woods where bears are because I know there`s a real world possibility a bear will eat me. People who do unsafe things don`t deserve their fate but they do encourage bad things to happen so it`s just a little their fault in the REAL WORLD.

Rape culture is a culture in which blame for rape is apportioned to the victim, either directly or by the way that culture views the victims group- often, but not exclusively, women. If women are seen as commodities, then men feel they have a right to exercise power over women who are not behaving in a manner they deem suitable. Perhaps these women are showing their hair, or their face, perhaps they are wearing a short skirt. Possibly they invited a man into their house for coffee and did not initiate sex- or denied it. Change the culture- do not start blaming the victim- not even a tiny bit because that is the way young men think it is okay to rape a girl because she drank too much- or had a tattoo on her back....

" Change the culture- do not start blaming the victim- not even a tiny bit because that is the way young men think it is okay to rape a girl because she drank too much- or had a tattoo on her back"

And what do women do in the meantime while they wait for culture to change? Continue to get obliterated drunk to the point where they don`t know what`s happening around them or to them? Go home with strange guys they meet in bars or hop into stranger`s cars when they get yelled at on the street? Taunt men with raunchy sex talk and touching all night long? Walk alone through a crappy area at 2 am wearing super sexy clothes? All things I`ve seen girls do.

By your logic, I shouldn`t have to lock my doors or keep my passwords secret because it`s not my fault if my stuff gets stolen since everyone knows it`s wrong to steal. Yeah, it`s wrong to steal but that`s not going to keep my stuff safe so I have to take steps.

Sad they they are trying to enact that condom in South Africa because rape is so common. It latches onto a guy`s penis and he can`t get it off. Can`t pee or even walk until a doctor removes it. Men would think twice about raping anyone, though.

Well Lauirloo- they stop making excuses for men who assault women. They understand how and when to give clear informed consent- they stop behaving as though they should be guilty for desiring and asking for sex, they keep an eye out for other women in public. They teach their sons and daughters about rape and consent. they explain to people that drunk people CANNOT give consent etc... For the record- I have not locked a door in twenty five years, because I live in a place where it is not necessary.

I agree with the removing the douchebags from our culture, it`s the same mindset that makes women dress like whores. Still cringe at the thought of shows like Jersey Shore that perpetuate this crap.

well, Madduck- I think women should be on the defensive and in charge when it comes to their own safety. You think they should be able to walk around like weak baby lambs in a field full of wolves. I think my scenario makes women safer in the world we actually live in. I deal with reality and how things are; you deal in fantasy and wish it was.

Maybe where you live explains why you don`t understand how dangerous it is for women who don`t protect themselves and be more savvy about situations. I`m not talking about average women getting attacked by strangers or relatives. Def. nothing they did. I`m talking about women who willingly engage in dangerous behavior and then get taken advantage of.
