@OldOllie: As @Squrlz4 points out: It`s just playing! It`s ONLY a kitten! They`re "fierce" all the time! But they don`t mean it.
An adult cat with mental issues (I`ve seen a couple! Not mine thank heaven!) will NOT play like that. It`s ALL attack / aggression.
Seriously? If an adult cat is hyper-aggressive? Put it to sleep. There`s 1,000 perfectly nice kitties waiting for adoption who deserve to live more than a hellspawn...

@Gerry1: WallyMart eh? Thx for the tip! I have had tons of cat toys over the years. Different cats like different things!

Best toys ever?
$0.50 "crochet mouse" which my cat Rocky literally "loved to pieces" his whole life!
$0.25 "google-eye monster" which my Calico (her name and her colours) absolutely adored!
$4.00 "buzz mouse" a pull-string mouse that "buzzes" on it`s flat tummy. Also works on children! (I`m a daycare worker, kids 4 & under LOVE the buzz mouse)

@5Cats, That wasn`t "playing rough." This cat was not playing at all. That was overt aggressive hostility. I used to roughhouse with my 80-lb. shepherd mix. I`d try to grab him by the throat, and he`d try to bite my arm. When he got me, he never even left a mark. We also played tug-o-war, but when I let up and said "drop," he knew it was over.

@ 5Cats - get one of these, the "mouse" runs around randomly under the blanket and the cats attack it. BEST cat toy we ever bought. I turn it on and never have to interact with those hell-spawn felines.

$30 available at Walmart.

I think this is really a cat`s way of play-acting what, in the wild, was a vital part of survival: being able to hold one`s own against fellow predators. If the cat really was focused on keeping the money for itself, it would have quickly run away; instead, it`s staying near the human so he can participate in this little psychodrama the cat is acting out.

@OldOllie: Different cats have different temperaments: some are more `rough` than others.
Also: this is a wee kitten!

Some cats I`ve had LOVE to "play rough"! Grrring and hissing and fighting... but it`s ALL PLAY!
No actual bites - just a nip!
No real scratching - claws kept in!

Others? You try to play rough and -zoom- they`re under the bed/couch! Gentle petting & playing is good too :-)

All was fun and games until the recorder became the honorary guest of cat feast.

I suppose, primarily because this is someone ELSE`S cat, this is rather cute. However, if any animal of mine EVER showed any hostility toward me, I`d smack the $#!+ out of it. If that didn`t break of doing that, I`d take it straight to the pound.
