MrHyde,
It looks more like a line of cars stopped than just a brief slowdown, otherwise I wouldn`t particularly care. Except, of course, that I don`t believe they can get any useful information from this study.

I`d laugh in his face and tell him to phuque off and get a warrant.

Or better yet, spit in his face and demand my 10 bucks. That *might* be worth a night in jail.

F[u]ck the Police.

DNA is the new fingerprint and mugshot database. It will be made universal in the US.

@broiz, god forbid you have to slow down and say "no thanks" and delay your trip by 35 seconds

You`d have to throw about 75% of the population off the islands. Hawaii is the most left-wing state in the union.

"Also, it`s all voluntary - the officers are off-duty, and they`re collecting samples to research the amount of drug and alcohol use among drivers. "

That`s right, it`s not "police state" stuff. Just a REALLY poorly thought out study. What would really piss me off is having my travel interrupted by garbage like this.

Exactly on your first sentence - I couldn`t stand him. He sounded insane, and what he says is insane.

Also, it`s all voluntary - the officers are off-duty, and they`re collecting samples to research the amount of drug and alcohol use among drivers.

No, they`re not using that as a ruse to force every person in alabama to bow down to the reptilian overlords - just science.

Those sheeple deserve to be slaves.
Unfortunately, the rest of us get dragged down with them.

This guy overuses the word "sheeple", but he has a damn good point.

How much more of this police state bullsh|t are we going to tolerate before there`s a revolt? Or are we going to just allow our rights to be taken away without a fight?

I made it 4 minutes in before I couldn`t take listening to him anymore. He`s like one of those ranters on a street corner you just try to smile at their rant as you`re trying to get away.

Having said that, my response to a roadblock asking me to volunteer salvia or blood ... uh ... "No, thank you." "But..." "Unless you have probable cause, I`m not giving you my blood or saliva. It`s illegal search and seizure, or it`s voluntary and I`m not volunteering." Not because of any particular political stance ... I just don`t feel like getting a swab in my mouth or a needle in my arm just because I had the nerve to drive on a public road. Do I look like I`m drunk or violating any laws whatsoever? Then let me go on my way.

jeez.
They used cops instead of scientists becauase cops can stop traffic and scientists can`t. That simple.
If you don`t want to... say no.
If you want 50bux ... say yes.
If you`re an American and are intimidated by the sight of a gun on a hip, then you haven`t been an American long.

Some people just love to make XFile videos.

Um, if the volunteers don`t identify themselves (assuming the police don`t take down license plates and identify ownership of the car--which I think is a fair assumption since this is an anonymous data collection) there is no way of connecting the DNA they collected to the volunteers... so why not do it for $60??

I stop listening to anyone as soon as they use the word sheeple.

I`ll find another source for the story.

"Uhm idiots... YOUR DNA IS BETTER IDENTIFICATION THAN A FINGERPRINT!? Wow, so much stupidity in the average human."

Do you have any idea how DNA works?

They`ve got my name, address, height, weight, a picture of me, on a database linked to every one of my family members. That`s some pretty damn good identification.

So, let`s say that they take your DNA, then write your full name, your social security number, and your license plate on the sample. (They don`t, by the way.)
But then the DNA is only as good as the identification and social security number it is linked to.

The worst they could do if you went off-grid and grew a massive beard and broke some obscure law is take the DNA sample of every suspicious person they find until they find one that matches yours. And there`s no way they`re going to put out that much effort unless you`re seriously special. You aren`t.

Okay, Einstein, explain to us "idiots" how you can take a few hundred DNA samples in a box with no labels or other identifying information and figure out the names of the people they came from.

in the end the data really isn`t that reliable. It was stated in someones comment only people that volunteer`d it`s completely negating anyone that didn`t volunteer. Seems like an odd way to run a study

sheeple, here meaning idiots that need to wake the f uck up. People who are not sheeple, here meaning, the people who are concerned for the rights and wellbeing of sheeple. Jeez, all sheeple have to do is a bit of reading/ watching/thinking, and bingo, they are not sheeple anymore!

Carmium,
Of COURSE it was a roadblock! Every lane was slowed while drivers were asked to participate, slowing *all* the traffic, not just those willing to participate. Also, this kind of test can`t possibly determine what pecentage of drivers had used drugs or alcohol; it can only tell what percentage of the people willing to be tested had used drugs or alcohol. Assuming that most people who had been using drugs or alcohol would choose not to be tested (a fair assumption, I think) the only information that can be reliably gathered from this testing is what percentage of the drivers was willing to be tested. One more thing - if you`re being paid, it isn`t volunteering. It wasn`t mandatory but it still wasn`t volunteering.

I stopped watching after "sheeple" - I don`t trust arrogant mean persons in the government who think they`re smarter than everyone to give me valid information, and I don`t trust arrogant mean persons on the internet who think they`re smarter than everyone to give me valid information.

I`ll take reptilian overlords over paranoid narcissists any day.

Also, my brother has been through this - They take DNA, Blood, but not your identification. The worst they could do is link it to your license plate, but there are no cameras on the spot and they aren`t taking notes.

Apparently the survey went very well, with a high proportion of drivers volunteering. It was not a roadblock, NO DNA was collected, and there weren`t even releases to sign in order to preserve anonymity. The suggestion that lab-coated techs should have been out there is insane; people would not stop for anyone dressed like that. You need some indication this wasn`t a college prank, for Pete`s sake. (All the officers were off-duty volunteers.) The tests were merely to see what percentage of drivers had any alcohol or drugs in their systems, and many were happy to make a quick $60.
