I can get you a lot more beans under 200.
Pork n Beans adds pork fat {lard} that`s where all the calories are. And baked beans adds molasses {sugar}.

I make a great pinto spiced with cumen, onion, & bellpepper. Very low cal and very filling

Yes, I don`t know where or when... but I heard eating celery consumes more calories than it contains. Might be B S, I have no idea.

@Gerry: Add some garlic, cilantro and cayenne pepper sauce. Tons of flavor and still low cal!

@ myK - garlic is a given, like air, it`s in everything except cake. Love cayenne but not this recipe, black pepper. No cilantro, Bay leaves! That`s the ticket. I do throw in a few dashes of tobacco when it`s done cooking and I like a splash of malt vinegar in my bowl.

As much as I love junk food...Notice how much MORE food 200 calories of broccoli, corn, kiwis etc..Is compared to 200 calories of junk? The joke about "America this is why you`re fat" is because of WHAT people eat, more than HOW MUCH they eat.

@Nickel, I`m incredibly humbled to read that you are so concerned for the health of America`s female youth population. :-)

(BTW, for anyone who`s interested for whatever obscure reason, it would take about 20-40 loads, according to scientific studies, to create 200 calories)

It used to be said that celery was the only NEGATIVE calorie food; it took more to digest it than it provided you in the eating. I guess that`s changed...?

Even if celery is a "negative calorie" food, the digestion isn`t calculated here. That is (maybe) a pile of 200 calories of celery. It isn`t eaten yet.

    Screw calories.
I eat low cal all week so I can eat whatever I want on weekends. But you can have some delicious low cal food. Not that store bought rice-cake crap. Real food. And good size portions to boot.

This weekend is apple pie and home made French dips with my personal au jus recipe. {the secret is beer} But then on Monday I`ll make a pinto beans and a big pot of split pea soup {screw ham, put some bacon in there!}. With those things and salad {home made dressing} I`ll do okay calorie wise. Which makes room for beer.

It used to be said that celery was the only NEGATIVE calorie food; it took more to digest it than it provided you in the eating. I guess that`s changed...?

What changed was that some companies were fined for peddling "negative calories food" lies. There`s no such thing and never has been. Urban myth at best, dangerous lies for profit at worst. You get a net gain of calories from eating anything else that humans can digest. Celery would fill you up and thus stop you eating stuff with a higher net calorie gain, but it does have a net calorie gain.

The only ingestible thing that causes a net calory loss, as far as I know, is cold zero-calorie liquid (your body has to use energy to heat the liquid to body temperature), but drinking enough of it to lose more than a few grams of weight would kill you.

I dropped 15Kg by paying a bit of attention to the nutrition information on labels. I used to eat biscuits by the pack and never even bothered looking at what`s in them (mostly flour stuck together with fat, apparently). Or "healthy" fruit snack bars...usually more sugar in those than in chocolate.

Fortunately, I`ve found that I like dry Ryvita with a drink.

I`m slowly earning muscle. Heavy exercise uses calories and muscle tissue uses more calories for maintainance. So rather than bringing my calorie intake down to match my body`s requirements, I`m trying to raise my body`s requirements to my calorie intake :)

Actually, weight training is fun. It improves my mood, I can get laughing at the walls high from it, and it`s cheap(*) and healthy. Win all round.

    * No need for a gym - gravity is the same at home and dumbells plus weights is enough for almost everything.
