All "terror attacks" coincidentally seem to occur when a drill of some kind is occurring. This is so that if they get caught in the act, they can simply claim they were taking part in the drill. Don`t be shocked when there`s some sort of gas attack in NY in the month of July.

While they say is is "Harmless and Colorless" what they don`t say is that it stinks to high heaven, like downtown after a 3 month garbage strike in the middle of a 101 degree heatwave and an "All Homeless Allowed to Pee in the Streets" amnesty program.

Just carry on as if nothing is amiss. Thank you.

So, if the Sunnis decided to gas the subway on that day, it would be passed off as a drill?

Why don`t they just serve beans and cabbage at all the homeless shelters and soup kitchens?

So they picked the peak travel times to do it and during the middle of the summer when people are wearing less clothing and tourism increases? And on top of all that they advertise it. I bet they play stupid when there`s an uproar.

Agreed, if this is a real poster then what else are they supposed to do? They informed the public, the gas is non-toxic, and they`re doing it to enhance security in the event of real airborne toxins.

dont worry, it`s loving gas, and you`ll be fine :) and also dont worry, all this rubbish about drills going live all the time is poppycock :) I`ve heard there is a study that says poisonous gas is good for you! just like radiation!

@peakingo - Being a New Yorker as well, I agree with you. As you said, the only way to know where gas will travel if released in the subway is to actually release (harmless) gas in order to trace its path.

This is like that one post a few weeks ago where dye was put in the water to trace where it flows and people freaked out thinking it was toxic waste.

I think the poster is fake. But the gassing is real.

If it`s so harmless, why does the guy on the sign need that gas mask?

By the way, this isn`t something they just sprang on us. This has been in the works for years and isn`t happening in all stations. This no different then planning a fire drill.

As a New Yorker, this is much appreciated.

There`s a fear that anything at any time can happen. My roommate as an example works for Viacom in Time Square and when the bomb was discovered in a truck a few years back he was actually right next to it a few hours earlier.

There are millions of commuters that use the subway everyday and thousands of employees in those stations, trains, and tunnels and they need to feel secure and safe.

This test is much appreciated by me and millions of others. In order to plan for an evacuation, it`s important to know where these gasses are traveling through and at what rate.

I don`t get how this is a bad idea?

Isn`t this similar to what they said about the Boston Bombings? We`re just doing a training drill? Oh drat look, we`re on the scene! What a co-ink-i-dink!

I`m kind of divided on this. On the one hand, you may be able to learn some things about one kind of attack. But on the other, we know it would be really effing bad without spending a dime on a test. Won`t it vary a lot by type of agent, where it`s released, and wind strength/direction? Money might be more wisely spent in detection or better yet researching treatment/remedies, that way you`re prepared for every city.

This would explain the free burrito fest held for track workers the previous evening.

What`s sad is how you now have to prepare for such attacks...Land of the free?

I like how people are so vehemently opposed to preparing for potential attacks. Presumably they`d prefer the NYPD to just cross their fingers and hope for the best instead of actually being ready to deal with a problem.
