"The Royal Guard" is a bit misleading. The picture of this guardsman is of the Scots Guards (you can tell from his buttons being in threes and him having no plume in his bearskin). You would never call any of the Foot Guards "The Royal Guard", even though that is what they technically do. Though that is a picture of the Household Cavalry, it would be more correct to say he is a Trooper in the Life Guards, the Household Cavalry being broken into the Life Guards and the Blue and Royals. The Household Cavalry and Foot Guards combined is the Household Division. Also, more to the point, the guy that`s from "Switzerland" is actually part of the Swiss Guard.... Which guards the Vatican and is mainly made up of Italians.

Hey, it`s showing the dress uniforms for the U.S. Military too people. Chill out, none of them are the combat uniforms, they are all formal.

Whoever made this is a total moron. The redcoats dont wear their uniform all the damn time and hardlty anyone wears it. These are all exceptional uniforms and the swiss guard doesnt operate in Switzerland - they operate in the vatican.

Normal uniform - MultiCam, MultiCam, MultiCam, black suites or blue jumpsuits.

THe british one is incorrect. It`s solely for the royal guard and is merely a showpiece.

If I were to come across these four military men, I would only fear the ones I the "normal" uniforms, they are all plenty tough, but you can count on the "funny" looking ones not hurting you until you threaten them, You can`t say that about the two "normal" ones.

*visibility of the unit.

i.e. when a general is commanding a unit of men upon the battlefield using a spyglass and semaphore, and black powder cannon fire obscures the field of battle, then it makes perfect sense to dress all your men in bright red. In those days, there was no sneaking about and shooting from cover, or blowing up innocents with a drone from the safety of an air-conditioned military trailer in Las Vegas.

A few words about the Swiss Guard at the Vatican. Their ceremonial uniforms may be a bit outdated, but if you cross the line you can discover that they are among the elite tough sons-of-bitches in the world.

Bear in mind that these uniforms reflect the age of the nations. The longer the history, the more ornate and impractical the dress uniform (on a modern battlefield).

The Vatican (Papal Swiss Guard) and their uniforms date back to 1506 and are appropriate for a ceremonial court guard of pikemen.

The Coldstream Guards` uniform style dates from pitched battles of the 1600s; the red aids visibility unit.

USMC Dress blues dates back to the 19th C.

The Russian uniform was updated, but based on the practical WWII-era soviet uniform.

This is not a Swiss army uniform. The Swiss Guard is recruited from the Swiss military but has nothing to do with it otherwise. They serve in the Swiss army and then a 2 year term (at least) in the Vatican. The uniform is for representational purposes only, the Swiss guard acts more like a secret service than an actual army.

Exactly the same as what Angilion said, that is not a GB military uniform, that is a ceremonial guard uniform, traditionally worn outside Buckingham Palace.
I should know I am British.

Those are the uniforms of the Swiss guard. Those are soldiers of the Holy See. I`m not even sure if they are part of the Swiss government.

That`s not really a normal British military uniform either - it`s a ceremonial guard uniform.

The selection process for the the Swiss Guard is very stringent, and those uniforms are hundreds of years old design.

I believe that the representation of Switzerland is actually of the Swiss Guard. The largely ceremonial guards of the Holy See (The Vatican) and not of the actual army of Switzerland.

I could be wrong, so please correct me if so.
