Very few opted out, because it cost quite a bit extra to have an unlisted telephone number. The only people who had them were usually rich.

I use facebook to stay in touch with people who i will never hang out in real life (family and distant friends). I only update maybe one a week with random things so people still know I am alive/around.

I used my live journal more.

Ya, this is pretty well how I`ve felt about it for awhile now.

@Gerry: True about the phone book, but it`s heyday was from a different time. Go further back and most people didn`t bother to lock their doors. Crime evolves like everything else. Identity theft has been increasing at alarming rates, and this may be a consequence of the electronic age we live in. Loose morals are easy when all you have to do is press a few buttons.

Similar thing happened with my galaxy S2 yesterday. One 359MB software update later, I find myself with a phone that may as well be someone else`s; it`s not how I left it when I went to bed. I accidentally left a door open and someone swapped my mobile for an unintelligible monster.
I want my old one back!

I don`t understand the paranoia of people knowing your real name. Growing up there was one book that had every bodies real name and their addresses and phone numbers. The Phone Book. Nobody was bothered by the information being out there. Very few opted out.

But if you want them kept private, then don`t put naked photos online. This falls under life category "DUH ".

I love hearing people bitch about FB.
Don`t use it myself.
yes, I have a page. Some games require you to have one, but I have no idea what`s on it. No photos, no messages. Probably the games put things there which means it`s a GARBAGE DUMP

Everyday, I get more tempted to quit facebook. There isn`t really anything there, and my friends don`t really use it.

I don`t get worked up about rather insignificant and meaningless changes to an internet account.

I find facebook very helpful for knowing whose birthday I am ignoring this week and knowing where I have been from people flagging me in photos I really wish wasn`t taken.
