I suspect the policeman wanted to make sure there was nothing else in the can- in which case he should have explained clearly- because otherwise he has arrested someone for no good reason. I have trouble hearing with those accents so I could have missed something.

So...this cop is in civilian clothes, doesn`t show a badge or anything, and is making an arrest? The cop also didn`t read him his rights. This is all kinds of messed up. And honestly, I feel like the cop would have arrested him for "trespassing" even if he did hand over the tea. First the Asian cop arresting that Latino teen, now this. This just screams racial profiling and abuse of power. This needs to stop.

Looks like white trash punishing a black person for no reason at all. Maybe for being smarter than himself. ;)

Ok this is CLEARLY a skit. 1, why did the camera man have his phone out recording a guy drinking a can of tea? 2. the "cop" is not a cop, no badge, no real introduction other than "im the Police" this is SO OBVIOUSLY not real.

@Dracobi - if you watch toward the end the guys shirt flaps and you see a badge on his belt. Other than that this is completely BS. No reasonable suspicion of a crime at all, and unless where they are has a statute against drinking in public there is no crime here. The `cop` is likely to get a slap on the wrist but he needs to fired for overstepping his bounds.

The cop did NOT clearly identify himself: they had to ask.
The cop can ask questions, but to order someone "off the lot" requires a bit more reason than that. His "arrest" is just an excuse to abuse his power.

He`s probably an "off duty" cop working security for the liquor store. Apparently that`s quite common in the USA.

Hopefully someone loses their job(s) over this, and the "criminal" gets a tidy wad of cash for his troubles.

"I have nothing to justify harassing you, so I`ll just make up a bogus `trespassing` charge as an excuse to violate your rights, ok?"

Way, way too many of our peace officers (piss officers?) are in it just for the power trip. They SHOULD be weeded out early in the psych evals, but I think they are actually the ones the establishment wants and seeks out. They are easier to manipulate into a para-military mind-set as they are taught to see everyone who`s "not on the force" as an enemy combatant.

"why did the camera man have his phone out recording a guy drinking a can of tea?"

I think it was an actual video cam, at 0:38 in the second vid the camera man tells whoever he`s talking to that they`re "shooting a video" which I`m assuming means they`re shooting a sh*tty rap video to post on Youtube.

At the beginning of the first vid the caption says they`re "waiting for others to arrive." So, he probably just has the camera rolling in case he can get any usable footage to throw in their video while editing.

When I was a good bit younger I was hanging out with my mates at the public square. Some police officer came up and asked what was is my bottle of coke. (which i had just bought from the store) It was the middle of the day and it was a nearly full (not sealed) bottle of coke. He asked to smell it. I said, you need to have reasonable suspicion that this is alcohol. He said he thought it was. And why pushed for a reason why he said it was because I was with a bunch of young people hanging out. I just said nope. There is no loitering signs here, there is no reason for suspicion, you don`t have a warrant or a right to search me or my property. He moved on. I felt good.

Also related to this video, the cop didn`t take the ice tea can with them. So nothing to do with the beverage

Anyone can poor vodka in a tea can. Officer just wanted to check the contents. I`ve had this happen to me, he smelled it and handed the coke back to me.

It is private property. They don`t have a right to hang out all night. Sometimes you just have to cooperate.

    Douchebag cop meets Douchebag homie.

    @Gerry
the cop asked to see the can so he could read the ingredients, not smell it.
and this was clearly motivated by the fact the guy looked like a gangsta and not because he legitimately thought the can had alcohol.

as for the trespassing claim, thats total bull crap
at worst its loitering since hes a potential customer during regular business hours and doesnt have any pressing legal matters with the store or any of the employees as far as we or the cop know

should he have just showed the cop the drink? probably, but only to prevent a scene, not for any legal reasons
but at the same time the cop should have shown his badge when he approached him asking to see the drink, or at least after the guy asked to see it, and i think that, unlike the drink showing, is for legal reasons.

Cops are bully non-nice individuals. They don`t think with normal brains, same way criminals don`t. That`s why it`s so hard to tell cops from criminals. They`re all the same.

So anyone in plain clothes can approach you and claim to be an officer. the man needs to show identification before approaching a random stranger and asking to touch there drinks.

This makes me sick. It`s cops like these that make everyone hate them. That guy wasn`t doing anything wrong. The cop had no probable cause or reasonable suspicion to forcible search that man or seize his property. The man seemed to have just bought the drink from that establishment; not to mention it is not up to the cop but the business owners to decide which of its customers are trespassing or not! This was a ridiculous display from a bully who doesn`t know the law, plain and simple. Seriously though, he isn`t even going to identify himself as a cop, and try and take the guys tea?
*(off camera) "Yeah this is officer "I have incredibly low self worth due to my incompetence and small penis" here at the corner of 58th. We have reports of a "Black" daring to be in public. Gonna take him down illegally using bullpoo means, over"

    FCK THE POLICE!

I support the concept of Law Enforcement but I vehemently oppose the self-righteous, power-mad, bullies currently in charge of implementing it.
It`s why I left after only 9 years. I couldn`t stand the back-stabbing, hypocrite asshats I had to work with.
