Too bad I was 38 before that finally dawned on me.

Now, at 52, I may not be as financially well off, but I am certainly HAPPIER.

@5Cats, @McThstlpnts

This isn`t about becoming an astronaut, or exploring the greatest reaches of anything. "Decide in your heart of hearts what really excites and challenges you, and start moving your life in that direction"

It`s about having a goal, a direction. "Don`t let life randomly kick you into the adult you don`t want to become"

It`s about making yourself into something, and not ending up working at a gas station as a cashier or in an office filled with drones going nowhere. It`s about controlling the outcome of who you want to be by putting in the effort to get yourself there.

Also nutella.

I think this guy is prominent because he is really making an effort - AmAs on another nameless site, Videos on Youtube etc. Whether this is his doing, his sons, his employers or just a group effort they have really tried to excite people. That is very cool, it may well inspire kids in a way that others have not. It is accesible, interesting, and very worthwhile.

Good post, but... did they run out of men`s caps when he was in the military? (Pic 6)

@McThstlpnts: True that, not everyone can BE an astronaut, eh? But you can still contribute to the "space mission" in other ways, if your heart is set on it. :-)

Not everyone gets to conduct the orchestra, somebody needs to play the piccolo too...

Appreciate the sentiment however it cannot be applied to everyone. This is not an equal opportunity world we live in no matter how much we like to pretend it is.

Now this is very useful advice. I`ve always said the best advice I can give someone who doesn`t know what degree they want is to think of the job you want and tailor your education to fit that job; Hadfield just took it further. Great post!
