Reasons to not support gay marriage,

    1: It`s against God`s Will.
Okay, no arguing with that. Um.. which god? There are a few and not all of them object.

2: Marriage is for promoting a safe place to have and raise children.
Okay, so all childless straight couples are not really married until she gets knocked up.

3: Same-sex couples damage undermine marriage.
`Cause if I`m married to a guy it will automatically devalue GW Bush`s marriage from hundreds of miles away. riiiiiiight

4: Next they`ll want to marry their dogs.
Well, if a guy wants to marry a girl dog he`s not gay he`s straight. Warped but straight. Not really the same thing is it.

5: The thought grosses me out.
Okay, I get that one. But straight sex grosses me out so I just don`t think about it. How about you stop imagining me naked having steamy, sweaty sex. Are we good now?

Actually the SCOTUS has said they won`t make a decision on Prop 8 which means marriage for California. DOMA, however, appears to be doomed.

@ Cajun247 - SCOTUS hasn`t ruled, they only just heard arguments. They may decide not to make a ruling, which is still a decision. It means the state supreme court that struck down Prop 8 stands and gay marriage would be legal in California.

But that doesn`t have to affect DOMA at all. That`s a Federal act and they can`t kick that one back. Will be interesting to see what they do with a 50/50 split on this

Increasingly oppressive and violent prone government, "Looter" mentality amongst elected officials, legalized discrimination against citizens, failing infrastructure and plummeting quality of life- no, I`m not talking about some small, anonymous third world country, I`m describing America.

There is do doubt the door to Polygamy will be swung WIDE open if the Feds stick their laws overtop of State laws. It`s inevitable. It`s been ongoing for decades!

Then the "age restrictions" will come under attack. For both "age of Consent" AND age to get married without parental approval.

It happened in Canada! 14 was perfectly legal under the Liberals...

Don`t be a twat. Gay marriage was sanctioned federally years ago, and you don`t see people marrying multiple spouses here, only in isolated religious settlements, just like the US has right now. Except that we tend to stop them from doing it here.

Also age of consent here was raised to 16 in 2008, but it went to 14 from 12 back in 1890, so I guess there`s a lot of your conservatives who didn`t seem to have a problem with it either, so stop making it a partisan issue and, you know, being a twat.

It`s a no-brainer. All those who oppose marriage equality are soon going to look like the nutters that opposed racial desegregation for biblical reasons.

They`re losing ground. Every new pole shows attitudes switching to a pro-marriage stand. If the religious people want to stop it they gotta do it now. Then again, losing gives them a rallying point to stir up the congregation and get more donations sent in.

Whatever! I`m sorry but my argument still goes no further than procreation. You are asking for an equal right for something that is clearly not equal. Let me put it this way. One penis and One vagina, two penises, and two vaginas, are clearly three different things. Last I checked you still needed a male and female to have a child. Therefore, procreation is my basis for marriage. Once science proves that incorrect, then I`ll change my FB profile pic to a red background with tow pieces of bacon on it and support gay marriage.

That said, I support anyone`s right to live as best they see fit for them. As Catholic, I guarantee you that you will find no better more welcoming and compassionate people who would be willing to go to extraordinary steps for you.

But sorry, it ain`t equal! Sorry, it just ain`t!

@ papajon0s1 - okay. So by your "procreation" qualification then all straight couples who can`t or don`t want children are not valid marriages. And women past child bearing years could get married period.

Tell me, were you born this stupid or did you have to study?

Are apples and oranges equal? Of course they are. They are both fruit, both good for you. But they are different. Just as a man/woman marriage and a man/man marriage are different yet still equal.

The major difference is I don`t have to put up with Premenstrual, Post menstrual nor Menstrual.

Straight couples do not need a "privilege" by the state to be married. Your procreation argument doesn`t hold either considering that it`s possible to have children without marriage, and we also let infertile people marry. Government has no business preferring some people`s relationships (or lifestyle choices for that matter) over others.

So what? Everyone in the circle made their decision. You choose to marry someone who already has 13 spouses? Great I`m happy for you! You love your cousin that much? Super! Our lives are short enough, government shouldn`t be encouraging anyone to marry in accordance to society`s "morals" or "standards".
