Until you find an amendment to the Constitution that has something similar to "A well entertained child, being necessary to the sanity of a happy home, the right of the children to buy and eat Kinder chocolate candies, shall not be infringed", there is no comparison.

You can thank the FDA and Litigation lawyers for it not being available in the US (oh, and the 1938 Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act).

HolyGod-"you have to admit that is a well done ad."

Actually, you don`t. You can easily admit it is a misleading ad that distorts facts in an attempt to creat a false equivalency.

`Actually, you don`t. You can easily admit it is a misleading ad that distorts facts in an attempt to creat a false equivalency."

Forget the message. You are letting your opinion and bias make the judgement.

I`m talking from a marketing perspective. It is poignant, funny, well designed, simple, and thought provoking. It is an excellent ad.

How the hell does it "distort facts"?

    It says simply that:

"One child is holding something that`s been banned in america to protect them"

    and

"we won`t sell kinder chocolate eggs in the interest of child safety"

Please tell me which of those two facts are "distorted".

    This ad is pure brilliance.

Ban all inanimate objects that appear `scary`. While you`re at it lets ban mothers who get high on crack with their kid in the room. Lets ban parents who beat their kids. Lets ban.......
    Stupid ad.

I`ll admit the photo is captivating. But if the message is incorrect, it fails as an ad (and yes, I have a background in advertising).

And did you READ second line?

"We won`t sell Kinder chocolate eggs in the interest of child safety. Why not assault weapons?

The first thing that jumped out at me was that the syntax is confusing.

It would make more sense (syntex-wise..it`d still be a false equivalency) if they said ` We banned one, why not the other?` or `We won`t sell one, why the other?`. They way they say it, `we wont sell one, why not the other?` is not the clearest way to say it.

So, over all, nice picture, bad ad.

    Nope! It`s dumb.
    Dumb dumber dumberer and dumberest!
First of all: you don`t hand a loaded weapon to a child...
    But there`s plenty more dumbness.

@HolyGod: Um, the fact that children cannot own or operate guns? I`d call THAT a grotesque distortion...

Effective? Hardly! It backfires badly: The "pro gun" people believe the Government OVER REACHES and bans things for no good reason. For example... Kinder Eggs!

So is this an "anti-gun" advert or an "anti-government" advert? Hummm?

I think most of you Americans are queer for firearms, but banning assault rifles just means the next mass shooter uses a semi-auto hunting rifle or pistol with a belt full of extra clips. I don`t see the point in piecemeal banning of guns. Those of you who want to make a difference will have to change people`s attitudes, not their hardware.

I don`t understan why the American media goes BESERK about 3 people dying in a bomb blast - they`re STILL going on about it even now - but doesn`t bat much of an eyelid to the phenomenal amount of people killed by firearms in the US every year.

Even the school shootings don`t get coverage after about a week unless it`s a particularly large killing spree.

Bush basically went to war in Iraq in revenge for 9/11, but yet neither he nor Obama have been able to do anything about current gun laws at home.

It`s bizarrely hilarious, the hold that the NRA has over America.

I don`t care about the state of Kinder eggs in America.. we can still get (weak) things from (damn, I had to look it up; it`s been a while) Cracker Jacks, and can also buy things from those 25+ cent fake tattoo/toy machines. I don`t know if kids can get stuff from cereal anymore. Anyway, we don`t need them. I suppose it`s sad that they`d even be considered illegal, though.

Number 28 in the world in gun deaths.

2 comments: my first to auburnjunky - Perhaps "Europeans" (as do Australians) like to comment on American affairs because as the self appointed rulers of the universe anything your Government does affects everyone. In fact the USA interferes more in the affairs of other countries outside its jurisdiction than ANY other country .In fact you have attacked 69 countries since world war 2 most of which were not a threat to your National security but a big threat to Americas global Business interests .

As for you SleepyHallow being only number 28 in gun deaths means that since 1979 120,000 children have been killed by guns in your country. I`d hope that number of deaths matters to you. Many thousands more are so injured their hope of EVER living a normal life is destroyed.Guns are a real threat to American children and everyone should worry about that !

Hmmm, I thought that children weren`t permitted to carry or buy firearms but that they`re permitted to use them under controlled and supervised conditions.

Which, doesn`t negate the possibility that they may be able to mishandle weapons in their home if they`re intent on it.

"Pools alone kill 100x more kids per year than guns do"

"An annual average of 390 pool or spa-related drownings for children younger than 15 occurred from 2007 to 2009"

    tinyurl.com/d95l6j6

"In 2010, gun-related injuries accounted for 6,570 deaths of children and young people (1 to 24 years of age). That includes 7 deaths per day among people 1 to 19 years of age."

    tinyurl.com/csj29kl

Now I realize that isn`t an apples to apples comparison, but those were the stats I was able to find quickly and as almost 85% of all drowning deaths in pools are children under 5 it is pretty safe to assume you can take the drowning stat to 19 without it getting much higher.

    By your statement:

    2,500 x 100 = 400

OK. Here is one for you.

Gun deaths are a problem in this country in my opinion, not its biggest problem, but a problem.

Some people think making guns harder to get or making some guns and equipment illegal will help that problem.

A lot of you disagree, which is perfectly reasonable. However while you shoot down that possible solution you offer no alternative.

So I`ll ask you: What is your solution?

Or do you just honestly not care and in your mind 6,500 dead kids a year is less important than following verbatim what same fallible men wrote 250 years ago at a time when comparing "arms" to today`s "arms" would be like comparing a horse and buggy to a bmw?

    Comparing Apples to Apples:

2007 causes of death for ages 0-19:
    Accidental Deaths:
    Motor Vehicle 6,683 per 100,000
    Drowning 1,056 per 100,000
    Fire/Burn 544 per 100,000

    Suffocation/Strangulation 1,263 per 100,000

HolyGod - There are plenty of alternatives that have been offered. As a matter of fact we have tons of gun laws in this country. many of them are not strictly enforced. We could start there. The bottom line is, we live in a dangerous world. You cannot protect everyone from all the dangers of our world. As careful as I am with my son, he has fallen, hit his head numerous times, and potentially could have died if he would have hit just right. Fortunately he did not. Should I keep a helmet on him at all times to "protect" him? Sounds ridiculous right? Owning a gun is a responsibility. @HolyGod: Honestly? You`ve lumped 24 year olds with "children" in your "math"?
WHO do you think the "gang bangers" are who shoot each other in Chicago every day? Hint: between 15-24.

Your "comparison" is fatally flawed. That horse? it`s dead, brother.

From YOUR Source: apx 400 "pool deaths" per year, 75% under 5 = 300.
FBI says: Firearm murders under 5 = 43.
    Apples = Apples
Difficult to imagine there being too many "accidental" shootings BY 4 year olds...

So guess what? You are wrong, by your own sources too!! Not to mention by calling 24 year olds "children" ffs...

    - An annual average of 390 pool or spa-related drownings for children younger than 15
about 75 percent (293) of the reported fatalities involved children younger than five.
@HolyGod: It`s from YOUR SOURCE! Learn to read, ok?

    No. NO. Bulls.hit dude.
= LOLZ! Really dude? Your own source dude! Plain as day dude! Under 5 dude? 300 vs 43 dude.
Dude! Dude? I mean dude, seriously...

More children die from guns than pools, way more.
Only if 24 year olds are "children"... duuuude.

this is so dumb. they aren`t even comparable. the kinder eggs are marketed for kids. how many assault weapons are marketed for kids and their parents buy them one?

lets ban all motorized vehicles because they can accidentally or intentionally kill kids. doesn`t matter that kids can own guns or cars, banned then all for safety! lol

    He said "POOLS", not "drowning".
And YOUR SOURCE says... pools (and spas!) NOT drowning!

Have I mentioned that it`s -your own- source yet? I have? Oh good...

    Pools = dangerous
    Cars= dangerous
    Bicycles = dangerous
dogs, bees, snakes bugs? All dangerous.

It`s a dangerous world out there. BANNING things will not make it one iota "safer"...

...unless you confiscate ALL the guns! From citizen and criminal alike! Every single firearm PERIOD! And SEAL the border! House to house searches across the USA! Sniffer dogs and Martial Law! Huzza!

    That MIGHT make things safer...

I guess I would like to reiterate for people who are obviously literally too retarded to read:

    My source said:

"In 2010, gun-related injuries accounted for 6,570 deaths of children and young people (1 to 24 years of age). That includes 7 deaths per day among people 1 to 19 years of age."

I then used ONLY the 1 to 19 number, NOT the full to 24 number (7x365):

    "2,500"

It literally hurts my head that people can be this stupid...

And you complained that we compared stats for 0-4 against stats for 0-4? How RUDE of us!

We should have included 19 year old CHILDREN too!

    Shhhhh.

Logic has NOTHING to do with it. Some people in this country have a deep love of guns and view gun ownership as a basic human right given to us by god almighty in a perfect document written by infallible people. It is a purely emotional position.

If logic worked you could point at other countries, like Australia, and show how gun regulation ACTUALLY WORKS IN REAL LIFE and that would matter, but it doesn`t.

Yeah, you go right ahead and do that. If you`re still alive, let me know how it feels when a rifle blows up in your face while you`re shooting.

A bump stock basically turns a semi auto into an auto without danger to the shooter. You say it jams but I`ve watched video of them being used to blow through high capacity clips in seconds. Accuracy? Maybe not, but you don`t need to be all that accurate when you are just spraying a crowd.

"Well, if said criminal already has a record, chances are he won`t be legally purchasing any kind of firearms in the first place."

Nope. You have the right to bare arms in Austrailia. In fact over 750,000 do.

    Gun murder in Austrailia: .09 / 1,000
    Gun murder in America: 3.2 / 1,000

    35 TIMES HIGHER.

Getting rid of a lot of guns got rid of a lot of gun murder. Weird.

Although to be honest even I think Austrailia is too regulated. I think hand guns for home and personal protection are perfectly reasonable.

#1 it was already lower before the "new laws" and hasn`t dropped much since.
#1A: Overall crime and murder in Australia remains unchanged OR worse
#2 Take the US Drug Gang murders & shootings out? The USA`s RATE isn`t much higher than Europe or Aussie. In other words: "guns alone" is NOT the problem...

Think about how many videos of these guys having their weapons jam never made it on Youtube while they were attempting it. You`re not going to post something like that because you don`t want to look like an a$$hole. That`s why you film all day hoping for a few minutes of usable footage.

chalket-"I`m just wondering why you conveniently left out the next two lines in your reference:"

Because HolyGod wanted to compare Apples-to-Apples. So I gave the numbers for Accidental deaths. (and, you`ll note, I added the disclaimer `please note that the Firearm deaths are only listing accidental deaths (as with Motor Vehicle), as you wanted Apples to Apples.`)

    For future reference:
Accidental deaths due to auto`s vs. accidental deaths due to firearm = Apples-to-Apples.
Accidental deaths due to intentional deaths due to firearms (i.e. homicides) = Apples-to-Homicide.

It was not `convenient`, it was a specific statement of accidental deaths. Now you would agree that there is a defference between `accidental ` and `intentional`, correct?

    - Said no one at all.

Yes I did! Because "accidental firearm deaths" of children 0-4 are very nearly ZERO!

The deaths of people 14+ are in NO WAY comparable to the drownings of children age 0-4! Deliberate or accidental!!!

And lumping 19 year olds in with "children" is DRATTING stupid! Just... pathetic.
