5Cats I don`t mean to be callous here but I`m simply going to have to conclude that this story is heresay. Course public schools run into huge problems trying to cater to every religion imaginable (and remember what L Ron Hubbard`s life story taught us), this is nothing more than an extension of that lunacy.

@Cajun: Sorry I couldn`t find it. It was a public school. They said it was "cultural" and NOT "religion" and that`s why it was OK.
And yeah, 80% of the students were Muslim, the story said. But it wasn`t one of the MANY private Muslim schools in Michigan.
That particular school has a huge Muslim majority.
I`m going to go out on a limb guess that it`s actually a private muslim school. If that`s the case then there`s no issue as they get to set the rules. May seem extreme but I`ll let the parents sort that issue out.

@Cajun: lolz! Which one?
The Muslim`s getting an in school Mosgue: is not a controversy, it`s the school`s policy. That particular school has a huge Muslim majority.

Sorry, I spent a lot of time looking but couldn`t find it. The site has -literally- NO search functions. :-(

The Christians asking for classrooms? Usually ends in the students getting suspended. Praying in the hallway, silently? Suspended.
Of course there are probably LOTS of more tolerant schools, but they don`t "make the news" eh?

In Winnipeg: The school built a "smoking shack" so underage students could smoke on school grounds and not freeze their butts off...
Of course the teachers are NOT allowed to smoke on school property...

Crakr that Atheist Communist Legal Union is the very group that is:
-Lobbying AGAINST the president`s "right" to use drones
-Lobbying AGAINST CISPA
-Advocated for the rights of blacks and colored people
-Strongly denounce Joseph McCarthy`s extremist anticommunism policies.

Newsflash buddy, EVERY RELIGION is pushing an agenda. EVERYONE has an agenda, of course there are some crazies out there. My question is HOW DID THE SCHOOLS RESOLVE THE CONTROVERSY ALREADY!! Fu<king verify it already, it`s important to me to know how the incidents were addressed.

@Cajun: Which one? The Mosque shoe washing story was literally from decades ago, Toronto iirc. It was one of those "funny stories" newspapers like to run, back when I used to read newspapers...

The Mosque in the Gym (or lunchroom, it depends) is happening all over the USA. The "Christians refused" has happened 100s of times in schools across the USA. Char limit prevented full explanation of it, so I just lumped them together. In one school? Students were forbidden from praying at their lockers before class started...
Without a doubt, the same "US School District" has done both, I`d bet dollars to donut holes on it.
But really? A MOSQUE inside the school, during school hours, boy and girls segregated and menstruating girls NOT allowed to participate? That`s SoC&S? lolz!

5Cats, Googled it, found similar stories but not the one you describe. Where`d you hear about it?

I think you`re conflating liberals/ACLU attorneys with atheists.

@LordJim and @paperduck: I have been 100% consistent. For an item to BE "halal" it must BE pure. Once impure there`s 100 various rules, go ask a Muslim why.
IF there is NO AVAILABLE "halal" then another thing can take it`s place. IF there is NO halal option available.
Thus once the foot bath in the Mosque was made "Haraam"? They CHOSE to rip it out and replace it. idk why, go ask a Muslim!

@Cajun: In Dearborn MI, the Christian students were REFUSED the use of a classroom before school for a voluntary prayer club. However, the Muslim students were allowed to use the gym for daily prayers, during school hours, with boys and girls segregated, and menstruating girls NOT allowed to participate.
Tell me again there`s no "creeping Sharia"... it`s what Mohammed TOLD them to do!

5Cats you pretty much contradicted your original statements. They can`t use anything for a ritual if it was made impure EVER. They can use anything for ritual even if impure if its necessary. So which is it?

`Surah 2:173 states:
If one is forced because there is no other choice, neither craving nor transgressing, there is no sin on him. `

You have chosen one of the least toxic verses to make what point? That when you are hard-pressed then strict rules should be secondary?

@paperduck: (and @LordJim too) Muslims ARE allowed to use ANYTHING if a "proper" ("halal") format isn`t availavble.
If they`re starving and only "impure food" is available? They can eat porkchops! It`s IN THE QUARAN ffs..

10 seconds at Wiki Proves me right. Again. Aren`t you getting tired of being wrong? You and @chalket... it`s like fish in a pickle jar...

Surah 2:173 states:
If one is forced because there is no other choice, neither craving nor transgressing, there is no sin on him.

See? And the story I mentioned is from decades ago, I couldn`t care less if you believe it or not. Honestly dude, is IAB the same as a PHD Thesis paper?

5Cats yeah I`m going to have to call BS. Just based on what I`ve seen, unless you can provide some source for what you`re saying (basically meaning Muslims I`ve known have been breaking the rule). Muslims during my schooling years and the few I`ve worked with used the regular sink in the bathroom.

It`s like saying Christians I worked with who visibly prayed in front of everyone else before we ate turned the lunch table into an altar.

What I`m taking away from this is, These cretins` bathroom habits are so vile that a mop sink had to be specially installed in close proximity to the men`s can.

@peakingo - Nice! I love when these hypocrites are exposed for who they really are inside. That Christian club president was probably also saying every day, "I can`t believe someone would do such a thing." Just because something offends you or you don`t agree with the message it doesn`t give you the right to destroy someone`s property.

`The "ritual foot bath" CANNOT be used for ANYTHING ELSE or it`s no longer "pure". Ever!`

Ritual washing (wudhu) does not require a ritual foot bath, only a source of clean water. I`m sure that ritual footbaths exist in mosques and they are probably very fussy about them. Bit like a font.

But realistically, how many of the world`s muslims are going to have access to that? For most people it`s the same stand-pipe all the water comes from, or a bucket from the well. This is from personal experience. In the west muslims can often manage with standard basins, but find the foot part tricky and are aware that it looks wierd and people find it off-putting.

They should probably pay for it themselves but I wouldn`t begruge anyone a place to wash their feet. But then again, I`ve never torn down a cross so I guess I`m crap at being an atheist.

@whodat, yup Christians do things like that all time.

I remember in College the Christian youth organization put 100s of crosses on our parade ground symbolizing the deaths of children via abortions.

After their allowed time, my girlfriend at the time and her organization placed hundreds of coat hangers representing the number the deaths from back ally abortions.

Well, every night the field was torn apart... EXTREMELY disrespectful of our University and every day they`d fix the field and place the hangers back only to have it happen again and again.

Finally campus police installed cameras on the field and guess who were ripping out the hangers and in the process destroying our historic field?

The freaking President of our campus Christian organization. He was expelled from school.

@5Cats, they`re making fun of it because it`s absolutely stupid to think it`s anything other than a mop sink.

They`re mocking them for the continued ignorance. This really isn`t a liberal/conservative thing... it`s just mocking a dumb person.

It`s like when a dumb person says something like why don`t people live in the Eiffel Tower?

@paperduck: Your ignorance of Islam is appalling...

The "ritual foot bath" CANNOT be used for ANYTHING ELSE or it`s no longer "pure". Ever!

Just as a knife used to prepare "halal" food can NEVER be used to cut "impure things" (like Pork for example) if it WERE a ritual thing? It would be 100% NOT used for anything else, thus making it 100% religious.

I recall the story of a Muslim fellow who washed his shoe in the ritual bath. Did HE get in TROUBLE! lolz! They had to rip out the whole thing and replace it...
this is not about being alert to the separation of church and state;
@LordJim: This absolutely IS about SoC&S! And nothing else. Sharia Law may require ritual foot washing, but it doesn`t require the US government to build foot-baths for them.

The guy asked a question, he was satisfied with the answer, the lib-tards still slandered him. How "tolerant" of them!

"Creeping Sharia" is the method used to FORCE small, local government bodies to "respect" Sharia law... and impose it on others. I have 100s of examples, but you`re in England? YOU ought to see it -every- day!

Oh yeah, one more thing, if you do a quick Google search for "atheist vandalism" you`ll see that all the articles that pop-up say they were vandalized with "pro-atheist messages" which doesn`t necessarily mean it was an atheist who did it.

Let`s not forget all the pro-atheist billboards that were vandalized by some of your christian friends.

"How is this worse than atheists tearing down and vandalizing crosses on public lands?"

Yeah, because all atheists are vandals right? You say we live in the "most religious tolerant country" yet you don`t seem to be very tolerant of those who choose no religion/god, atheists. Atheists are quite possibly the most tolerant group of people on the planet. The only time you hear an atheist go after a$$holes like you is because you provoke them with ridiculous comments like that. Get off your f*cking christian high-horse and go experience the world outside of your little bubble of bullsh*t. You might learn something.

5Cats,

But then hand-basins become a problem too. How do you know that the guy washing his hands in the next basin isn`t doing it as part of a ritual act of hygene? Check him out until he starts to wash his ears or rinse his mouth and then - pow - you got him?

This is not about principled objection to sharia, this is not about being alert to the seperation of church and state; it`s about sticking it to the moslems.

LordJim these folks are paranoids who see Islam as a kind of 5th column movement and they see it everywhere in the most innocuous of things. Like mistaking a glorified mop bucket for a religiously mandated purification area/practice necessary before prayer. That`s what makes it funny.

We are living in the most religiously tolerant country in the world. The problem comes from those that are intolerant, and those least tolerant are muslims and atheists.

Of all the problems sharia law can bring taking issue with their hygene standards is starting at the wrong end. Makes you look petty and vindictive.

Much better to push hard against those aspects of sharia which place women in a subservient role, which discriminate against gays, which oppose sound science education on theological grounds and which seek a theocratic underpinning of the law.

I`m sure these guys are passionate opponents of that sort of thing.

And what if it was a foot washing station? Then it would count as "religion" and should be INSIDE the Mosque, not in a public washroom...
