Yes. Really. They Can Even Down Drone Mid-Flight. Sadly, No Plans For Sharks With Lasers.

Ya, that would be sarcasm to show the road you`d like to go down.

Would that be a "tired righty pro gun strawman statement again?" You really crack me up sometimes, McG! I doubt you mean to, but thanks nonetheless.

I demand they immediately release these for public purchase! How else can we keep our own government in check?

How they hell are you going pay the power bill!?!

It does okay shooting down model planes flying around but I don`t see this having any effect on a cruise missile headed directly at the ship.

@Chalket: LOL. You`re right. Every teacher should have one of these lasers mounted at the front of the classroom.

"Tardy again, Julie?" *Bzzzzzzt!*

Erie how much the narration resembles the Union Aerospace Corp. narration in Doom 3.

This could be exactly what the Mk-15 CIWS needs to overcome many of it`s shortcomings.

However, pairing the LAWS with CIWS to do targeting and detection will introduce some shortcomings to LAWS. For instance, one limitation of CIWS (if it hasn`t been addressed recently) is that CIWS is only effective for targets that do not exceed 45 degrees in angle - this is because CIWS` radar mount gimbles lock at 48 degrees, making any target "invisible" beyond that angle. All an enemy had to do to defeat CIWS was launch S2A artillery close to surface level until it was almost in range of CIWS, then convert to a vertical trajectory with a high arc rate that would enter the range of CIWS detection past a 45 degree angle...

But it will be interesting to see the two paired and effectively working together in a real theatre.

Pretty cool, and I think it`s a worthwhile arrow in the quiver. But if I were on the other team, my immediate response would be to affix a mirror to the underside of my UAV and fly it in at a high angle of attack. (And that, no doubt, is why the video referred to a machine-gun-based backup.)
