Ha! That`s pretty spot on Auburn. If you watch the bonus material on the DVD it actually mentions this scene where she says, "Aye, quit being such a `Hipacrate` I quit smoking didn`t I". The director laughed so hard and decided to keep it in though she claims it was intentional.

Side note, this is one of my favorite movies and I highly recommend the book the film was based on. George Jung (Johnny Depps character) is actually a much bigger ashole than what`s portrayed in the film.

Like shaking up with a divorcee taking all of her money while getting her teenage son addicted to crystal meth while making it and having sex with her 13 year daughter.

This was a great movie, but as far as "Depp at his druggiest!" I think Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas tops this, one.

Enormously popular film based on a true story.
I hated it. I know I`m in the minority, everyone loves it. But I just couldn`t find any sympathy for the lead character. Depp does a brilliant job portraying him, but he`s a scum bag and I didn`t care if he lived or died.

But you enjoy it, most do. I`ll just sneak into the latest Hugh Grant movie.

@Gerry, I`m with you man, the guy was an absolute dirt bag and the film idolized him.

I get the idea of living outside of the conventions of the status-quo but this guy had an obligation to his parents and daughter that he selfishly abandoned.

I`m a big fan of that scene and the chaotic life that cocaine created, but as a point of reference he has a sister that refused to be included in the film and publicly shamed the film makers for their portrayal of him.

Also, his mom was forgiving of his lifestyle and his father actually hated him.

At the end of the film he records a message for his dad, it`s word for word the same. He did it because he knew he was never going to get out of jail again and his father refused to speak to him ever again.

@Gerry1of1 and peakingo- I`m with both of you on this one. The character is entirely unsympathetic. While Depp`s performance in the film is great as usual, I also felt like the film makes an entirely un-heroic person into some kind of damn folk-hero. Plus I really fcuking hate cocaine. As far as Depp`s portrayal of druggies, give me Fear and Loathing any day. HST was a person actually deserving of the larger than life, magnificent portrayal the film provides.

I`d like to add one last factoid about him.

If you were at the original Woodstock, you were smoking his weed.
