Our infrastructure needs major work. Ultimately this is all on Exxon. That Keystone XL cannot be built. There will be blood.

Oil and gas pipes fail for a number of reasons: manufacturing problems, weld failure, construction breaks, natural disaster, weakness due to age and corrosion, etc. Corrosion is listed as the cause of nearly 20% of "significant incidents" and the trouble is that dilbit crude (diluted bitumen, like Canada`s tar sands) are much more corrosive than conventional oil and no one (not even TransCanada) knows just how that will effect pipelines over time. Why do we never hear WHY pipes burst? Because if we`re being told that new pipelines (Alberta Oil Sands > Texas, AOS > BC coast, etc.) will be safer than old ones, I want to know how and why. I`m willing to listen, but all we get is "Environmental disaster!" from one side "We need oil!" from the other.
