@MacBeth702: This Russian Crash?

Sorry, but I think it`s real: CNN Thinks So

And Here Too

But I`m happy you "de-lurked" anyhow!

@5Cats and it also happened in Russia in Dec 2012. Same exact footage.

I don`t usually comment.... but come on people!

@MacBeth: I can guarantee you this was not "shopped" in any way. As a member of the USAF, I can vouch for the currency and validity of this video.

@MacBeth: I think you may be mistaken since this just happened.

Link please!

Please people. They showed us on IAB months ago how the whole video was photo shopped.

@kain1: no, I`ve seen plane crashes before and there`s an expansion of pressure and metal. In all cases, this results in a explosive sound.

Especially when fuel is ignited. The impact alone would`ve made noise.

huh he didn`t scream at all. i would have been like a black man in a movie theater.

Seems a pretty steady troop that filmed it. No panic mode and he seemed to figure on avoiding the intersection and possible IED`s while driving closer.

@peakingo: I think you`ve been watching too many movies. Planes don`t explode when they crash. The fireball is just a fireball..

DingDingDong, I think you nailed it. I saw this video this morning and saw right away that the plane was in a stall at the beginning of the video. I was thinking that there was a malfunction in the controls. Since it just took off and would have been in a climb, a shifting cargo load would cause it to go into the stall and would be the more likely cause.

DingDingDong - I work for DHL (It wasn`t our plane btw) - we have computers to instantly figure all that crap out.

Where`s the Earth shattering kaboom?!

Seriously, how is that I can hear his engine rev, but not hear the crash or explosion at all.

@carmium & @HalfPintRoo: Those "squeaky" noises MIGHT (I`m just guessing) have been him reporting to base. He`s an Army guy, on duty, British I think. He doesn`t "have time" to get all emotional...

He does cuss at one point...

Anyhow, what is there to say? Some people react to seeing the unthinkable with silence, eh?

I know I would be talking! A mile a minute!

How come these people never have a reaction?

You would have heard me scream, cry, gasp, SOMETHING

I don`t get why we can hear engine, voice, and road noises, yet the driver watches the crash without so much as a "huh." What`s going on??

Very sad video.
I`m a just student pilot. But my first thoughts were a shift in cargo caused it to be uncontrollable. Too much weight in the rear prevented the controls from nosing down.
I`ve spent hours and hours learning how to calculate the center of gravity based off cargo load. And that`s for a tiny plane.
I`d hate to be the guy that "secured" the cargo for that flight!

The 747 can carry more cargo than the C-5... which was basically built to transport the M1A1 - everything else just happened to fit. This particular 747 was indeed a cargo configuration and with 99.9% certainty, it was aft load shift that brought them down (someone didn`t properly restrain the cargo).

I have to agree with the idea of loose/shifting cargo and I bet it was overloaded. Why would they load that sh*t on a 747 anyway? That`s what the C-5 Galaxy is made for.

This is one of my nightmares, for this to happen in front of me while driving. Every time I see a plane in the air flying below 10,000, I get nervous.

WTF? As a professional pilot, I can tell you that looks weird. Really weird.

First, certainly not shot down.

Second, almost certainly impossible by aerodynamic control of the aircraft - i.e. it could not achieve that attitude simply by mishandling. Not to prejudge the enquiry, I would be very surprised if that aircraft was not a long way out of centre-of-gravity limits, probably too far to have reached flying speed without a tailstrike (in a previous incident a mis-loaded 747-400 rotated without control input at 58 kts, although that one got airborne and actually landed safely).

Therefore a load shift in flight (probably as it rotated) would be my guess; an educated guess, but only a guess until the details come in.

No, it happened yesterday.

It was carrying cargo and the crew. I think the article I read said 5 Army vehicles plus other cargo. So, it could very well have been a result of said cargo coming loose/shifting.

Elsewhere on the web, folks are saying that perhaps a load became unsecured and shifted towards the back- I read that a couple of hours ago, I guess. I`m unaware if this was if this was a cargo carrier or not, but I`ve witnessed ships flounder in similar scenarios.

The internet says: Crash Report

Reporting Website

The date stamp in the video is wrong, this just happened today (afaik).

The car is a military one, a K-9 unit (you can hear the dog).
Apparently the Taliban IS trying to claim they shot it down, but no one believes them.

@ruTenrMan: Yes. The normal crew is only 2, but 5 others were on board.

The theory is that the load may have shifted & caused the stall, since there seems to be nothing visibly wrong otherwise. JUST a theory at this point!

It`s horrific, unforgettable...

WOW! Textbook stall. My uneducated guess is there was plenty of pilot error involved.
