That`s cool. I`ve never seen a cicada in real life. I`ve only ever seen those brown crusty shells they leave behind.

Every 17 years, there is a huge hatching/swarm of these in the norhteast US. Biblical proportions. This summer is that year.

When I was a kid, I was riding in a car with my arm hanging out of the window. A large cicada collided with my hand. It felt like a damn rock and hurt for hours.

There are many different species of these things, and yes, they do live in Canada. I live near Montreal and happen to have two dead ones that I collected last summer. I think they are fascinating. As for living in hot zones, it gets plenty hot here in the summer. Makes all the igloos melt. What a mess.

Ferdyfred: It`s a cicada shedding its juvenile shell as it reaches adulthood.

    Awesome.
