@5Cats
You really need to drop your unsubstantiated wing-nut claims about "lean". Even if there was some shred of truth in it, Martin`s blood work showed just a tiny trace of marijuana ("The amount described in the autopsy report is such a low level that it would have played no role in Martin`s behavior") and NO signs of codeine or any other intoxicant. If he did happen to partake of "Purple Drank" it definitely had NOTHING to do with his death. So drop it already.

Thanks 5cats... as a heads up the info about how to make LEAN is propagandize. The ingredient listing for LEAN as posted is all 100% wrong.

As a person who`s tried it and being in a culture where it was popular The actual ingredients are as listed:

SPRITE
CODINE COUGH SYRUP (TUSSIN, OR NYQUIL IS FOR KIDS WHO CAN`T GET THE REAL THING)
FOR FLAVOR AND COLOR ONE GRAPE LOLIPOP.

(Of course there`s variations, some use jolly ranchers or Hawaiian Punch, but no one ever uses Arizona Tea, it`s not carbonated)

No Skittles or Watermelon flavored Arizona. That in of itself should`ve been a red flag for you. I mean common Watermelon... someone`s having a little fun and exploding stereotypes.

But the MSM CANNOT SAY "a black man was enjoying -watermelon- flavoured beverage" so the cover it up...

And they cover up the ingredients of "Lean"...

And T.Martin`s MANY posts about drinking Lean, and liking it, and wanting it "hardcore"...

Because all news MUST fit "the agenda" or it isn`t "news" at all...

SEE: Pennsylvania abortion doctor / mass murderer for details...

Thanks for the follow-up links @peakingo @ @SmagBoy1! Very interesting.

If it had been in his own home? No firing, no punishment at all. Perhaps stern lecture on being an idiot, but it`s his business there.

Once out in public? Even if he wasn`t in uniform? It`s a whole different ballgame.

His excuse stinks! He knew exactly what the "target looks like" and even if it were intended as a "don`t shoot this!" Target? It`s still beyond "poor taste".

@auburnjunky: It was -Watermelon Flavoured- Fruit Juice made by a company called "Arizona Iced Tea"...

2 of the 3 parts of "Lean" (or "Purple Drank") a powerful, mind altering combination...

Here`s a local news report that has the owner of target range talking about why he should be fired and how it was handled as opposed to what he said in his personal rebuttal.

news report

In it, officers claim he was trying to give them these targets he had in his car, they thought it was dumb and reported him.

I fully support him getting fired.

Not because of the reasons OldOllie would think, rather it` just poor judgement on his part for ignoring how much of a PR nightmare this would create.

He`s also a hypocrite. in the video he talks about people using the Travon incident for personal gain or politicizing it yet that`s exactly what he did, he decided to use a high profile incident for attention.

`I gave up on the police having "high standards" long ago.`

Saddest thing I ever read.

LordJim, I gave up on the police having "high standards" long ago. They`re just douchebags like the rest of us. When that target came out just after the shooting you laughed, admit it. Well, this cop did too.

Gerry,

I expect higher standards from police officers than I do from decorators or hookers.

I may have to think about that for a while.

Police shouldn`t display symbols in support or against anything divisive to the public. I`m sure there is something to that effect im their policies. Bad judgement by cop and but warning should have sufficed.

Okay, this cop has a sack on him! Read this, and watch the video--he`s claiming the target was a "no shoot" scenario, so shooters could learn to differentiate between threat and non-threat targets. Article is here.

Gerry- if you`re tasting hookers, you`re doing it wrong.
OldOllie- just once, fail to live up to the stereotype, huh? Just once?

I don`t know if it matters or not, but, to me, the fact that Martin was 17 is also kind of important. I mean, here`s a cop, ostensibly an adult, with targets of an obvious caricature of a dead minor. If I was the CEO of a company and my company was in the service industry, I`d want the guy fired, too. As I say, not as a political statement, just as a freakin` statement about what I consider outrageously cruel and stupid. Again, though, I don`t know the rules regarding employment for police officers.

Unless he`s a decorator or fashion designer,
you can`t fire someone for bad taste.

And hookers. You can definitely fire hookers for having a bad taste.

AJ: "It was a typical thief`s profile" So anyone wearing a "hoodie" should be regarded with suspicion?

It wasn`t a photo of Trayvon. It was a typical thief`s profile...

...with Tea and skittles.

I believe the hoodie/Skittles/bottled tea combo are what puts it over the top, Gerry, not so much the basic shape, which could have been argued only "looked" like Trayvon. With those things in concert, it was just too obvious. As for his being fired, I can`t say as I`m not a police man, but, the public is supposed to be able to trust them to be fair to all citizens and this type of thing might undermine that trust just a bit.

I`m with 5Cat on this in that having them at home, while I think it`s terrible, certainly isn`t the same thing as having them at work as a cop, or, you know, sending them around via e-mail using one`s government computer.

While it`s tacky, I don`t see any reason to fire the guy. Wouldn`t give him a promotion to public relations or anything, but he didn`t deserve firing. It wasn`t a photo of Trayvon, it was this...

Bad decision. It should be common sense: don`t do dumb stuff!
Having them at home is one thing, bringing them to work is quite another...
