It`s creepy when you stare up into the night sky and it seems like there are rings dividing the space and they are moving in different directions. Man rural living and vertigo is fun.

When I was a kid (1960`s) all the street lights were automatically switched off at 11:30pm. As a special treat,we were allowed to sleep in a tent in the back garden. This usually meant staying awake and looking up at the stars. I have only since seen the sky like that in Africa.
Nowadays street lights are on until dawn, but we worry about wasting the world`s resources.

I lived in a small town in Utah once. We had a power outage and it almost seemed unnatural to see all the stars.

Whenever we go out to my grandfathers cabin, it is so amazing to look into the sky and see that it is literally lit up with stars. It`s in such a secluded area so there is little light pollution and wow...it`s so beautiful. When you get back to the city and look up and see almost nothing it makes you feel a bit sad.

As a city dweller I rarely see many planets or stars, even on the odd night when the air is clear enough that the downtown glow seems to vanish. I`ve almost forgotten what it`s like to see the Milky Way...
