And as for the infographic... The last REAL victory the US was involved with was 1945 (All due respect there) but one could argue that the US has been losing wars for the last 68 years. To be fair, the nature of war and the enemy has changed greatly.. but showing up, blowing a bunch of poo up, and then leaving when it becomes clear that your involvement is not really benefiting anyone does not count as a victory in the conventional sense.

WW2, on the other hand.. yeah. Without American support, western Europe was fu--ed. and the Russkies would have suffered a hell of a lot more.(I happen to think they would`ve eventually beaten Germany anyway) but that was a different war... So thankyou America for `Winning world war II`

Gotta disagree @whodat. no disrespect intended towards the individual US doughboys who fought in WW1, but they really didn`t do jack sh-t other than show up. True, the Germans threw their last roll of the dice (operation michael) partly due of the amount of American troops and material that was set to enter the war, but their offensive was broken by the French, British and dominion troops during september/october 1918, and it was growing dissent inside it`s own borders that ultimately tipped Germany`s hand. Apart from some great performances by some individual units, the US troops basically refused to listen and learn from the experienced allied troops and decided to run headlong at the guns in frontal assaults in the way that proved so costly to the allies in 1915. It might really sting your American pride, and the sacrifices made aren`t any less valuable, but the truth is that the war was already won. you guys didn`t `save our asses` in that war. but thanks anyway.

So, let me see if I understand you. The American GOVERNMENT is a bunch of violent murderous war mongers, therefore, the American PEOPLE should willing allow themselves to be disarmed by said government.

Does that about sum up your point?

@Whodat: Ah, ic! So amoung the MANY fails in this offering is: they didn`t even get the right name of an operation.

Check!

@5Cats - True, but the whole thing was a UN operation called United Nations Operation in Somalia II (UNOSOM II) which was controlled by the US. A military presence was required to ensure that the humanitarian relief workers could do their jobs safely.

@D6U4 - "they come in the last year and claim all the glory. Typical americans"

That`s a typical douchebag Canadian comment. We didn`t get involved in either Word War until there was no other choice. You`re goddamn right we take all the glory, if it wasn`t for us getting involved we`d probably all be speaking German right now.

Nice "catch @D6U4! I ususlly spot that glarring error in US participation in WW1 and WW2...

It does mention Obama`s invasion of Libya! lolz! "Freedom Falcon" I had completely forgotten...

@WhoDat That`s true, but there were a series of "interventions" into Somalia at that time, (1993-1995) they seem to be lumped together here.

Blackhawk Down aka: The First Battle Of Mogadishu (1993)

Last time I checked the U.S. didn`t join WWI in 1914. More like 1917, they come in the last year and claim all the glory. Typical americans

I like how they started naming alla wars "Operation", implying that have some form of control. On the other hand, they took a decent break from war after WW1 and poo kind of got out of hand for a bit.

Operation United Shield was a multinational operation to monitor a cease-fire and safely get UN Peacekeeping Troops out of Somalia. It was planned in January of 1992 and the mission took place from January to March of 1995 (3 months) and there were no casualties at all.

To add to ssalty, a "cold" war is exactly that; cold, meaning a stand off, so add 47 years to the total of years of peace.

Somebody better do the math for him. Just adding the years between wars through the Spanish- American War I came up with 88 years of peace. And, I came up with 237 years by subtracting 1776 from 2013. So maybe this is two years old; no big deal."Click!"

first, there was no "indian-american war" that lasted from 1775-1918. there were legal battles over territories, but indians and `americans` haven`t had bloodshed since it was the colonies or at worst mid 1800`s during the westward movement.

second, the brits have been in 500+ more years of war and don`t want guns, not to mention they criticize americans for being in afghanistan when they themselves were in afghanistan 120 years ago, before it was cool.

Here`s a list of conflicts in the Near East (Middle East) that goes back to the Bronze Age.

I`m not going to do the math for you, but I think you get the point. Regardless of countries/territories changing names, they`ve been killing each other forever in that part of the world.

All those crazy f*ckers in the Middle East have been fighting each other as far back as recorded history goes and probably longer than that. I see everyone else picked up on the "Cold War" part which was clearly just added to pad the numbers. Nice try though, but try harder next time.

merka is in a lot more wars than that. legendary beans-spiller gore vidal (sadly deceased) gives a fantastic list of many other secret and undeclared "actions" around the world in "perpetual war for perpetual peace".

also, you left off the falklands which merkia played an unnecessarily large role in.

Expertly done! My hat is off to you!

@Slotherder! Don`t go! You`re one of the few sane people left at IAB!!!

@DrProfessor: Being a "world power" is a bloody job, eh?

I was learning about the Bangladesh Liberation War 1971 which is in the news lately. 3,000,000 dead? THREE FREAKING MILLION?

Doesn`t even register. Because Muslims did most of the killing? idk honestly...

17 1942-1962 (what about that thing in Korea?)

*2 yeah these were just periods where the u.s.
*3 was running black ops missions. still on.

those are the times of peace between wars from the start to the end of this useless piece of drivel.

1) there was no "war" during the cold war
2) genocide does not count as war, it is genocide.

remove "the cold war" and "the Indian american wars" from this and you get the peace times i have stated above.

sooooo, more like 140 years at war since 1774.

(actually if you include the whole genocide thing we`ve been at war since 1492!) (should we compare this to spain? or how about norway? sweden? i think the vikings did a whole lot more warring than the u.s.)

should we bring china into this pointless math pro

@skullgrin There is a bit of inherent confusion in the word "Yank" or yankee. In the U.S. the word yankee is used to refer to those above the Mason-Dixon or sometimes more specifically the New England area. Outside of the U.S. the word refers to people from the U.S. in general.

the cold war doesnt count. nobody ever brought out any "heat".

"I`d like to see comparisons with other countries. Otherwise, this is meaningless."

not really. just shows how much we like using guns.

"all for good causes too."

i wouldnt say ALL of them...taking land from natives isn`t really a good thing...fighting becuase you don`t have someone to do your yard work for you also isn`t a good thing...don`t even get me started on vietnam...
