The bums would prefer this done at a bar/wine store or with the local corner drug dealer so if you really care prepay for "pending" products there. Just saying.

It`s "shoddy grammar", not "shotty".

I wonder if this works for hookers...

It`s probably more like a tab than anything else. I think it would be fine in America as needier people are already known to a store and they`d get put on a list by management. If anything it might bring in people who need help who would never ask and if they ever get back on their feet a company made a life time customer. Some companies might use it as a way to store funds so they can`t be taxed. But it might put pressure on mom and pop`s if the tab isn`t always positive and they want to maintain the good natured image.

Yeah, I know. They didn`t even use proper capitalization for roughly translated.

This would be awesome if it worked but really I think too many people would cheat the system and try to get free coffees.

tsk tsk TruTenrMan. Where`s your Southern hospitality? We gotta represent.

A cup of cold water or a cup of hot coffee -- either one can be welcome to someone truly in need. Being thoughtful of others -- even and perhaps especially in small ways -- is never a bad thing.

@TruTenrMan: You list your location as Southern US, so I guess I`ll let it slide. But in the midwest? We got 7+ inches of snow in areas. When you`re in between residences, you take what you can get, and sometimes a hot cup of coffee is going to be the only meal you get until you head back to the mission at night. If they have room.

"Yeah, because people struggling to buy food and clothing and housing are REALLY wanting a free coffee."
If you are living on the street everything you can get free is welcome.

Large supermarkets here have a free of charge coffee corner. Often you will see some homeless bumming a coffee there.

The only problem i see with this is that there will be certain kind of people who will take advantage of this. The real homeless for whom this gift is meant will never receive a coffee because the standby coffees would be snatched away by greedy bastards.

actually- I have heard of this happening in several places, it seems to work- because of course you do not want the staff to see you are poor or mean, so to make yourself look good you buy stuff for others...

Like everything else, it`s a good idea in theory but would never work out in the long run. People would most likely take advantage of it and ask for free sh*t even if they had a pocket full of money. Why spend your own money on something when you can spend someone else`s money on it?

I like that, I think it`s nice.

Oh wow, this would be a beautiful way to contribute to the less fortunate...not just the homeless but those who are at risk, struggling to buy food for their kids on a single minimum wage incomes...or for the hypoglycemic who doesn`t have a snack or a wallet on hand (and who can reciprocate next time), or for the Uni student putting themselves through school etc.

But there`s also the obvious risk that some people may take advantage of it.

So people buy 12 coffees and only 6 are drinked. Now tell me who`s making out with this?

nice idea but it would never work with greedy americans/businesses. people would pay for the pending item and the business would just keep the money. or people would ask for pending items all the time to get free stuff.
