I don"t even want to think about how many hundreds of hours of my life this game will devour in the coming months.

@McGovern: Agreed regarding the subways. I miss those.

Also, I`ve finally experienced the glitches so many have been talking about. I lost a city that I`d put a few hours into, which is annoying. So, yes, clearly EA has some catchup work to do with the game.

I really hope the kinks get ironed out and they`re able to add a few features in the coming months. It`s an incredible experience when everything`s working right. I was playing the game in multiplayer mode and, I must say, it was awesome.

Got in after trying to get into a server for awhile seems pretty cool. Although no subways and only one highway onramp with no say in how the highway is designed is disappointing.

TotalHalibut

While some people experience no downtime(rotated launch, some accounts login immediately while others even preorders get delayed launch). In the video it is said that people who buy now were ahead of the "staggered release".

Did I buy the game, no, never will. Why is that? SimCity is a Single-Player franchise, You cannot play without your internet connected/on. I have no problems with internet but many others do. i.e. I won`t support it.

I`m using a an Intel Core i5-3450 CPU @3.10 GHz with 8 GB RAM on Windows 7 (64-bit OS). It`s running great at all the highest settings and looks amazing.

The minimum specs on the SimCity website are as follows.
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better or Intel Core 2 Duo Processor 2.0GHz or better.
Operating System: Windows XP/Vista/7
RAM: 2GB RAM
Hard Drive: 12GB HD Space
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 2x00 or better*
nVidia 7800 or better*
Intel Series 4 integrated graphics or better*
Broadband Internet: Minimum 256 kbps download, 64 kbps upload.

@Piperfawn: My vote would be to go ahead and buy now. It`s been the best 60 USD I`ve spent in a long time.

@McGovern: Sorry to hear of your troubles. I guess I`ve been lucky.

After 10 hours of play yesterday (don`t ask), I`m giving the game a solid B+, which translates into "pretty damned good." My only complaint is the small maps. My understanding is that this was as large as they could go with the current computation limitations for a true, granular simulation such as this. I hope they`re able to expand the map size in months ahead; I`m sure they`ll get a tsunami of requests for it.

Despite that one caveat, I`m having a blast. Watching the sun come up over my city, watching storm clouds roll in, followed by rain? Amazing. I`ve yet to even get to the point of having trains or airplanes, which look great.

Also, I haven`t done anything yet with multiple cities (which may mitigate the city-size constraint somewhat). I hope to create a coal-mining town and link it in trade with a university-centric city. Lotsa fun! =^.^=

I`m the third type of player, who likes to play god and make little sim people pay dearly.

@Whitemn: I`ve been playing the game most of today and haven`t had any issues: my logon time just a few minutes ago (I checked after reading your comment) was under six seconds. Not sure where these reports of "30+ minute waits" are coming from.

It might be better if those who haven`t bought or played the game yet hold off on their negative feedback. It`s a bit like persons reviewing a movie they haven`t seen.

@PiperFawn: lolz! That`s usually what I do. There`s been lots of games I`ve played and been VERY glad I didn`t waste any money on them.
Others? I`ve tried them out (pirated), then bought them! Since it`s difficult to get patches & updates unless you have a legal copy.

I thought Spore would be fantstic, and it was good! But my PC couldn`t run it past the second stage! LMAO!
When I got a better PC, the other stages weren`t nearly as much fun as the first two...

The last SimCity I bought (3? 4? idk...) wasn`t as good as the one before it. I found it more "annoying" than "fun".

THIS looks like "The Sims" on a city-wide scale! Woo hoo! (I haven`t played TheSims).

Thnaks for the updates @Squrlz4!

Unsure if anyone has followed this, but it is online drm, in the terms you have to be online to play(no offline). Launch day their is a 30+minute wait to login.

According to Maxis or whomever created this one, the calculations for the city simulators is done server side(adding to the drm) so you really do have to be online to play.

@Gerry: This SimCity might hold your attention a bit better since you`re a model builder. The graphics have an optional tilt-shift setting, which gives the whole thing a model-building feel. The light and shadows are amazing, too.

To give you an idea, check out this video, which follows a SimCity coal train making its run.

Update a few hours in:

The game is superb. It has tremendous depth, and my appreciation for it grows as I discover each new complexity. At this point, I`ve barely scratched the surface.

One key distinction about this SimCity and all prior versions: This is the first true simulation. Prior versions simply used tables and ratios to direct the game`s behavior. For example, if you had X number of police stations per X citizens, you would have X number of crimes. With this version, everything is determined from the level of the Sim up. A given Sim, if he doesn`t have a job, lacks education, or access to mental health care, he`s more likely to commit crimes. Such formulas are worked for EVERY Sim in your city.

Tip: Make sure you`re using as much of the graphics as your system will allow (go to Settings).

In my next comment, I`ll try to share a screenshot of a portion of the industrial area of "Trinity Lea," my first city.

I`ve been playing it for a couple hours. I experienced some delays, nothing major, when first setting the game up. Since then, no issues.

My verdict at this point: Awesome. If you`ve liked SimCity before, this is like SimCity on crack. =^.^=

Heard they have a huge problem with the equivalent of Diablo3`s error 37 because of the always online DRM-thing.. I would advise that you don`t buy it. at least not right away.

The new SimCity can blow me. Incredibly small maps. Set highway entrance. Online-only DRM. It seems watered down and, of course, as McGov pointed out, EA loves to f*ck over their customers by releasing incomplete games.
