However they won, chinese backing or not, we were beaten to a standstill. It`s war, winner take all . We lost therefore they won, no matter who backed them.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of Iran`s parliament`s national security and foreign policy committee, already said

"Fordow will never be shut down because ... our national duty is to be able to defend our nuclear and vital centers against an enemy threat...
This suggestion (shutting down Fordow) is meant to help the Zionist regime."

@furryblob: Right, Iran only wants enrichment for energy ambitions, sure. And they are willing to go to war over it, oh I get it.

You don`t need weaponized plutonium for a nuclear reactor. The pressurized heavy water reactor can use unenriched uranium and can permit refueling without shutdowns, the Canadians have their own similar designs as well. But I sure the Iranians just haven`t realized that yet, eh?

Espeshally when Iran has the world`s second largest reserves of oil. Or if they wanted to be Earth-friendly they also have the world`s second largest reserves of natural gas and multiple thermal energy plants and hydro-electric plants like Karun-3 Dam commissioned in 2006. Iran`s unique geographical position also means 90% of the country has enough sun to generate solar power 300 days a year.

Yea they really need 3,000 centrifuges for enriching uranium for nuclear power, and it has nothing to do with the US and Israel. Don`t blow rainbows up my ass.

@Gerry1of1: I like you man, but they didn`t win. The Chinese had to fight for them or else we would have won in less then a year. And as far as the Chinese were concerned, Peng Dehuai China`s prominent military leader and later Defense Minister was quoted as saying "You should go to the front and see with your own eyes what food and clothing the soldiers have! Not to speak of the casualties! For what are they giving their lives? We have no aircraft. We have only a few guns. Transports are not protected. More and more soldiers are dying of starvation."
The Armistice was crated by India and it was accepted by the UN. Dwight D. Eisenhower was newly elected, wanted to legitimize the newly formed 10 year old UN so it didn`t end up like the league of nations, and because for the most part American`s were war fatigued from ww2, didn`t want to invest the money, and really didn`t care about Korea, and it didn`t help him politically, hence why it was called "the forgotten war

North Korea tests tabun and vx gas on kids, trains its doctors on political prisoners without anesthetic, has a cannibalism problem, and lets guard dogs rip people apart for fun. Its average death camp holds 50,000 people like at Yodok and camp 22. Also it is developing nuclear weapons and sells weapons to Iran.
Yea, this is a country we should go to war with or at least have a "military action". Screw what Europe thinks, they`ve had over 50 years of talking, with the usual results, nothing. Except for the fact that the EU likes to import clothes, electronics, jewelry, machinery, plastic products and salt from the abused and staving slave labor force in NK.

Yep, if we don`t do something and they do attack first then the `peans will cry that we didn`t stop them. If we did strike first the `peans then cry we`re being too aggressive.

What the N. Koreans fail to tell people when they are whining about the annual exercises is that they are in fact conducting their own military exercises as well.

`Lil Kim wants so badly to be relevant to the world (and to his own oppressed masses) he`s going to continue to rattle the sabre for all he can.

So, North Korea is posturing to start a war. They have nuclear missiles that could easily reach naval vessels, and possibly Japan/Hawaii. They have proliferated nuclear technology to other countries like Iran, and will continue to do so. They just tore up the 1953 armistice, and are threatening open nuclear war on the US....And you do not want to strike them first and eliminate the threat from these mad dog idiots for what reason??????? I am all ears for you solutions!

@5Cats - They invade North Korea (or Syria, or Zimbabewe or a dozen other hell-holes) and THEY are the bad guys. If they don`t invade? They get blamed for "not doing anything".

That statement is 100% true. You`re damned if you do, damned if you don`t!

I just read that they "tore up the cease-fire" signed in 1953 after the Korean War after an annual exercise involving the US & South Korea began last night. That`s like a sports team accusing their opponent of cheating for practicing.

There`s an "international agreement" that forbids the assassination of another country`s leader, no matter how vile.

In Desert Storm #1 the USA`s commander spoke of sending a "hit team" to get Saddam and was immediately "relieved of command". It`s a serious treaty!

The USA is in a no-win situation:
They invade North Korea (or Syria, or Zimbabewe or a dozen other hell-holes) and THEY are the bad guys.
If they don`t invade? They get blamed for "not doing anything".

I`m guilty of that sort of thing too.

I`ve read that during the Bangladesh Liberation War 1971 there were (apx) 2,000,000 civilian deaths! Puts Syria into perspective...

HalfPintRoo, honestly I`m not sure, I`d like to think (possibly naively) its because a great deal of us would rather solve this without conflict. Not to mention a great deal of their population are innocents under the control of a horrific government. I think invasion would cause alot of casualties for the populous. Waiting for them to move their armies and catch a sizeable chunk of it without suffering huge innocent losses, whilst not being the ultimate solution would be the best way to go about bringing a resolution via conflict

Also in my mind the DPRK are just about the worst government in the world right now. I`m sure theres examples of other countries that are very bad but many can be argued to great length about depending on religion, political stance and tonnes of other factors.

Having spoken to defectors from NK that have been lucky enough to leave relatively guilt free due to having no family for Kim and his ilk to kill as a threat, just about everything that countries government does is absolutely and unequivocally monstrous

Haven`t china already condemned any attacks North Korea have threatened? And given free reign to the US to retalliate? I`m sure I`ve read that somewhere. China`s economy is simply too reliant on exports now to risk conflict with the west.

So despite NK potentially being able to launch some nasty stuff at SK and potentially chemical /dirty bombs at the US, defense systems will likely nullify 95% of any air borne threats. They have a well trained and sizeable ground army sure but every bridge across the Han river is already rigged to blow and will be destroyed the second NK moves across the border via tunnels in the DMZ. It would be a matter of days before NK fell

He is a spoilt brat who will chuck a tantrum if he doesn`t get his own way.this makes him dangerous and unpredictable.
He seems likely to take a swing even though he knows what the outcome would be.
He is on an ego trip because he is "glorious leader" without earning the right for himself.

@piperfawn - We`ve had military bases in South Korea since the Korean war, like QueenZira said. My older brother was in the Air Force for 10 years, 3 of those years were spent in Korea. Nothing anyone does at the border & the DMZ is considered a threat unless someone decides to cross the border uninvited. Both North & South Korea have a strong military presence at the border, a few American MP`s are there but they`re basically just tour guides. They literally just stand there all f*cking day staring at each other.

Wouldn`t it better to nuke a place that doesn`t contribute much of anything to the GDP in proportion to its population and takes the most in welfare without paying its share of taxes? Someplace that ranks among the fattest, unhealthiest, and least educated? Some place like, oh, I dunno Alabama?

The critical piece of the puzzle that is missing is that the countries you mention lack FORCE PROJECTION. Put plainly, they do not have the means to land a considerable force on the US mainland.

Force projection is a skill that the US is a monopoly of. Consider the Falkland Islands, which the UK could barely strike. Consider Mali, in which the French need US KC-135s to refuel.

If a war were to occur, it would occur in the opposing country.

The US LIED to get other countries to support them in iraq. This has been proven multiple times and G W idiot even said so himself.

However, theres a huge difference between going in with ground force and containing areas, than issuing first strike orders with nuclear weapons.

Go back to the second world war, when the US dropped 2 bombs on a civilian populations simply to see the effects. Most of the allies condemned it, and it was lucky the war ended as The US would have been ostracized.

Just a routine scheduled tantrum, as you would expect. NK has more or less been ruled for generations of the kid from `It`s a Good Life` (Bixby).

The country has been ruled by generations who continue to look and behave like petulant teenagers however old they get.

If China actually applies the sanctions they voted for Then NK is less of a problem. They haven`t in the past, but I`m puzzled to think why China would want a second, and deeply dippy, hand on pulling the trigger from their side of the ocean.

Um....no. The amount of nuclear war heads the us has in it`s possession dwarfs most countries. It`d be suicide for any country to try to start a nuclear war with the US. Look for yourself.

Wait. Was that serious? If so, that is absolutely f.ucking retarded. Iran does not have the means to adequately attack the United States. China and Russia combined do not have the military of The United States and even if they did they wouldn`t attack. China`s economy is dependent on the U.S. They aren`t going to bite the hand that feeds them.

Not to mention attacking the U.S. would bring in Britain, France, Italy, Israel, Germany, Spain, etc.

Weapons are too sophisticated now for modern countries to attack modern countries. It would be mutual armageddon. That is why the Cold War never happened and why no modern country has declared war on another modern country in the last half century.
