This would have been a very satisfying ending.

I like that way of looking at it/reading it. Very thoughtful.

skullgrin: I too thought that Harry was the last horcrux, that they`d somehow kill each other simultaneously. But according to the books Voldemort wasn`t the true master of the Elder Wand, Draco was. Then the allegiance of the Elder Wand transferred to Harry when he overpowered Draco.

That is the reason the Elder Wand shattered in Voldemort`s hand, he didn`t have the wand`s allegiance, Harry did.
"This post was meaningless to me."
Then why`d you comment?
Just read the first book. Then you will understand.

This post was meaningless to me. I never read or saw any of the books/movies/paraphernalia. I find myself actually fascinated at the level of disinterest. It`s almost anti-interest. I must be alone on earth.
"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches ... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies ... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not ... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives ... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies ..." - Prophecy made to Albus Dumbledore by Sybill Trelawney

I love Trelawney. There`s a deleted scene in Order of the Phoenix where Emma Thompson is playing up the blind-as-a-bat bit at the start of term feast. Very funny.

I have a severely autistic daughter. Her one movie that will calm her in an instant is...yep, you guessed it, HP. I have seen the movie literally thousands of times.

Trust me when I say, ANY ending other than seeing the same one over, and over, and over would be refreshing.
neither can live while the other survives
I always translated it to mean
if either of them died, they both would
thats why it was the ultimate sacrifice, Harry would be killing himself in order to stop Voldemort

No. God no. Harry doesn`t need one more reason for people to be like "OH MY GOD HARRY YOU`RE THE BEST PERSON WHO EVER EXISTED."

That was the biggest flaw with the books. The entire Potterverse was designed to make Harry look cool.

Also, were there any remotely likable slytherins? Because I don`t remember them. Neither do I remember Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw at all, other than being Houses full of scenery characters. Flaws. FLAWS I SAY.
"They never explained the whole "train station" part well enough."
Dumbledore explained it when he said "Of course this is all happening in your head. But why should that mean it isn`t real?"
"HOW did he come back? THAT was never explained"
He`s magic . . . duh

@ Gerry1of1, as another dork on this subject;

Harry wasn;t keeper of the Elder wand, but he was the official owner. So the wand would/could not kill Harry because Voldemort was not the rightful owner.

The owners follow like this: Dumbledore (from Grindeweld), Draco from Dumbledore (disarms him), Harry from Draco (`defeats`Draco, so makes him owner). Voldemort just thinks Snape is the owner and therefore kills him.

I`m going back to my basement and cats now...

They never explained the whole "train station" part well enough. HOW did he come back? THAT was never explained.

LOL Totally forgot that Harry didn`t retrieve the Elder wand before Voldemort enveloped him with it...I haven`t read DH in its totality since it came out and I`m about two chapters away from the end of it for my son`s bedtime story reading.

Geogypsy, Harry wasn`t keeper of the Hallows. He only had 2 of them, not the Death Stick. It was the horcrux that took the brunt of the killing curse that saved Harry`s life. But he had a choice to "board a train and move on" but he chose to come back to the world of the living.

But You-Know-Who with the Death Stick was the only way to kill the horcrux living inside Harry. It had to die by Vold.... You-Know-Who`s hand. Dumbledore stressed that in the pensieve.

So Harry becomes immortal? Next thing you`re gonna tell me is he spends his free time going to high schools and seducing ugly chicks. Hmmmm, why does that sound familiar?

Exactly Gerry...the second line of the prophecy says that neither can live while the other survives which means that both must die -- which they did -- But Harry managed to evade the clutch of death as the keeper of the hallows.

Maybe over-thinking it a little, but the logic seems sound.

He did die in the end.
He chose to come back.
Therefore both Harry & You-Know-Who died
AND
Harry lived to marry Ginny and make babies.

I dunno, I don`t think that it would have been at all satisfying for Harry to be exiled to the role of a martyr for all eternity...that would entail never ending tragedy. I think that J.K`s decision to give him a peaceful and ordinary life after so much hardship was much more merciful.
