I`ll just repost what I recently said on Bookface:

Yes, it`s that time of year again, St Patrick`s day. Time for the grumpy Irishman living in North America to deliver the annual rant (bear with me, I do this every year).

I`ve been asked over and over again by locals whether I`ll be down in O`Reillys Irish Pub this weekend. I won`t be. I assure you, it`s the very last place you will find me. You know how the British who colonised India (the days of the Raj) became more British than the British? Or the Dutch who colonised the East Indies became more Dutch than the Dutch? St. Patrick`s Day isn`t even a public holiday back home like it is here in Newfoundland. Drove through downtown today and everyone was dressed like a drating Leprechaun...

Enough said. For those North Americans who enjoy the holiday, go for it, have fun. Maybe even visit Ireland some time.

Alright, enough grumpiness from this Irishman. You`re off the hook until this time next year, when I get all grumpy again.

Well we`re sorry that there are more Irish descendants in America than in Ireland. You see the fun ones, not the grumpy ones, moved here a long time ago. And because they were feeling nostalgic and a bit isolated they decided to celebrate St. Pat`s Day. Just like Italians celebrate Columbus Day and Mexicans celebrated Cinco De Mayo and the Germans celebrate Oktoberfest.

So we apologize if we like celebrate our diversity with others, party and tie one on.

Now get over it or I`ll borrow my friends authentic McGillicutty family shillelagh and thwap you with it.

Hugs Crakrjak. You know it was meant tongue-in-cheek, as was your deserved jibe back at me.

Happy St Pats, fella. We`ve been at each other`s throats over the years, but I still consider you a friend.
