And what`s with this "The clerk notices the gun isn`t roostered" bullshyt??? What if there was already a round in the chamber and it was a double action mechanism?

If the clerk hadn`t reacted, no one would have been shot. But he reacted and apparently killed someone (just the opposite of saving a life)

@ Mickets - possible, but you don`t know the robber wouldn`t have killed them just so there weren`t any witnesses. That`s fine if you want to take a chance like that, other people reserve the right to defend themselves. It`s a personal choice.

You pull a gun and point it at me, I have no choice but to assume you intend to kill me. ::shrug::: guess what, you`re going down.

He shot scum, that`s what he did. Saving that life isn`t worth it and no, letting the robbery happen and sparing the life is not better. You forfeit your right the moment you pull the gun for that intent.

iirc: The robber didn`t die, the cops caught him at the hospital. He was hit 2-3 times, the other crook was 17?

So yes: the minute you pull a gun during a crime? Your "right to live" goes bye-bye.
Crime is one thing. Crime with a weapon is another thing entirely.

If you want to lay down and be a victim you will only encourage other thugs to attack you. Animals like easy prey.

More people were disturbed by the horse being humanely killed for food, than by this looser being shot...which is fine by me.

The moment someone pulls a gun on you, you have to assume he WILL use it. Watching dispassionately from the safety of the internet is very different from being in that moment, IRL. It`s a fight for your life & you should use whatever is at hand to save yourself. Yes, I have had a gun pulled on me; if I`d had a gun on me I would have used it without a second thought.

PierreJeanFR-"How stupid is a statement:"guns save life"? And doctors kill people... "

Well, seeing as it can readily be proven that guns DO (in this case, DID) and HAVE saved lives, and that doctors CAN and HAVE killed people, both statements are true, and logical.

YOUR statement, on the other hand, is ignorant and asanine.

And, no, the shop owner nor his gun took this guys life. He forfeited it by his own actions. Suicide by stupidity.

Why is it okay for the lefties on this site to assume the robber wouldn`t have harmed the shop owner but not okay for the shop owner to assume that the robber would have harmed him.

Well here`s the thing. If I am robbed at work I am not allowed to resist. Company line is that if you comply with a robber`s demands than there should be no issue of personal safety; however, that is not gonna stop a nutter who wants to shoot ya.

Most of the gun violence would be solved if everyone was required to wear a side arm. I work in a state prison. The crooks agree.

Yes, this risky shootout is so much better than not having guns at all.

In my country, where we have weapons control, the situation would have played out like this: Robber doesn`t have gun and doesn`t attempt stupid robbery.

I doubt that. The robber wants to rob and he will get a weapon to increase his leverage. Not being able to get a gun will not stop him to utilize a knive or whatever is available to him.

Banur, I imagine most robbers would be deterred by the relative difficulty of committing a robbery with a knife compared to a gun, but I can`t back it up. What do you think?

That`s not to say we don`t have robberies here. They are just a lot less dangerous, seing as the only guns involved belong to the police.

MeGrendel - yep. Generally, if there`s a gunshot in this country, it makes news headlines. It`s *that* rare.
