@5Cats, It`s nothing to do with your political views.

It`s had to with the fact that every time you`ve commented to me on this thread you`ve literally misunderstood me each time. And you can`t seem to separate fact from fiction.

This is a satire, if take what he says as literal then your an idiot.

You made claims that he`s insulting ethnic people and that he`s a liberal gun propaganda speaker. This is a satire not something to be viewed as truth.

Also as a side note. I`m surprised you disagree with is first point. Criminals do have guns and more importantly they have fully automatic ones. And for the record wives and children do die from guns in the house in greater numbers verses houses without guns. Those are facts.

Midknight-"You see a knife is used primarily in kitchen activities."

Just as I see a gun is used primarily in self-defense situations.

You see, you were arguing DESIGN. And a knive was originally designed was TO KILL. It also happens to be handy for other things...just like a gun. But YOUR logic deems you must divest yourself of any knife in your possesion.

Midknight-"Guns were not responsible, no but they could not have happened on such an extreme level if they were not in the picture."

Unfortunately, guns ARE in the picture. They EXIST, therefore they will always be in the picture.

What is your grand idea to eliminate guns and remove possibility that criminals (who, by definition, break laws) will get them?

I can manufacture a basic gun in my shop in a couple of days. It`s not that difficult. How do you plan to stop that?

A person`s responsibility keeps getting called in to the picture. The question is MeGrendal and 5Cats do you think by allowing some responsible people the ability to kill with the press of a trigger is worth the batman shootings for example?
Guns were not responsible, no but they could not have happened on such an extreme level if they were not in the picture.

Hope to hear from you both. It`s nice to hear another side.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with you MeGrendal. You see a knife is used primarily in kitchen activities.

A gun`s only purpose, is yes propelling a projectile through the air, but why does it do that? The answer is to kill. Unless you are going to tell me you use it to flick the light switch on and off, the guns only use is to kill and defend and by defending killing, let us not deny that fact.

To 5Cats - thank you it`s good to be here. I understand your point about it being another inanimate object, but still I have to press that it is designed to kill no matter how you dress it up. Therefore from this I can never personally glorify a design that solely exists to kill.
You used an example of never using it, which I can completely seeing happening. But you misunderstand that this is ENTIRELY not the point. The point is the gun is only a threat and can only be used in self defence because it is designed to kill and killing is nothing to be glorified or respe

Midknight-"argument is that funs are designed to kill not defend. It is their only purpose. I can never support an instrument that`s only purpose is to kill."

Then throw away all of your knives, as they were designed for the only purpose to kill.

Your biases aside, a gun is designed for the sole purpose of propelling a projectile in the direction it is pointed in as fast and accurate way as possible given the limitation of that particular device.

What one is using that threat of the projectile is totally up to the person in control of the gun. Be it to harm someone or to convince them to perform, or not perform, a certain act.

@MidKnight: I`m glad you "de-lurked" & welcome to IAB!

A gun is just a tool, like any other inanimate object. It is "designed" to throw something at high velocity where it`s aimed at. Like a bow & arrow, or a crossbow.

WHAT it gets used for is entirely up to the human holding it. Exactly the same as a knife, pack of matches or baseball bat.

If an intruder enters your home? And you show him a gun? He`ll most likely run away. THAT is called "self defense" ok? It`s perfectly legitimate, there`s 100s of reports of people defending themselves and NOT SHOOTING their gun even!

I`m concerned that each side is making such rash assumptions on each others logic as if they know what it is, said with resentment.

Surely if there is a different opinion to yours you seek to understand it? Not condemn it and force into the ground with anger. Let`s listen to each other.

The hole problem with 5Cats` argument is that funs are designed to kill not defend. It is their only purpose.
I can never support an instrument that`s only purpose is to kill.
Even to defend with a gun it is through the threat of killing.

"...it`s a fact same as me saying the same about likely hood of an accidental gun shooting in a home verses one without a gun in the home."

And he claims -I- misunderstand HIM?

Would someone do the honor of explaining what "sarcasm" means to @peaking? thx.

For the record: Accidental Falls is the 4th leading cause of -Accidental- death in the USA... all sorts of falls. Off the roof, in the bathtub, down the stairs...

Wiki Says: 5Cats is correct!
Oh, what`s the LOWEST cause? Waaaay down at the bottom of the graph?

"Accidental gun deaths? apx 200 It barely registers as a "cause"."

I`m certain the family members who lost someone will agree with this insensitive view of concern verses percentage.

"People with stairs in their house are more likely to die while falling down the stairs than people with NO stairs in their house!
True fact that is! "

Exactly!!! Now check this out---by writing that I don`t think you`re anti-stairs, it`s a fact same as me saying the same about likely hood of an accidental gun shooting in a home verses one without a gun in the home.

As for "accidental gun deaths":

Times a gun is used in crimes in the USA: apx 70,000
Times a gun is used to defend/prevent a crime: apx 2,100,000
Accidental gun deaths? apx 200 It barely registers as a "cause".

Wiki Says a LOT about this sort of thing

@peaking: People with stairs in their house are more likely to die while falling down the stairs than people with NO stairs in their house!
True fact that is!

It doesn`t MATTER what Mr.Carrey`s INTENTIONS are! It is we the viewers who get to decide, for ourselves, what it is he`s saying. What message WE get. Also, didn`t you see the part where he explicitly says (twitters) he`s anti-gun? That`s part of the package too.

If I wrote a "satirical comedy" about (lets say) beating homosexuals to death, and it offended people? You`re darn right I`d catch hell for it!

Again I repeat myself: He has every right to say what he thinks! And I have every right to say how stupid he is. And you have every right to agree with him. Or not.
Agreed?

@peaking: What makes you think "I don`t understand" this? That`s a TYPICAL "liberal assumption" eh? Oh, the conservatives just aren`t smart enough to grasp the subtle nuances of Carrey`s satire... bullshiite!
I figured it out all on my own.
Parts of it are both good and humourous, BUT other parts are the opposite.

#6 He claims that there`s no point owning guns because the criminals will always have more... liberal logic! Also that YOUR gun will kill you, your children AND your spouse. HOW is that not "anti-gun" mythology?

That`s like ripping into the actors of SNL, Mad T.V. or In Living Color for what the writers do and producers allow. I can`t stand these two, mainly her, but this dumbass is no better.

I will like to say that as a country/roots rock/americana fan, that music is spot on, though not surprising when I learned the music was composed by The Eels. A great F*CKING BAND.

And as a musician, kudos to Carrey for having a solid voice.

1-all I`ve been doing on this page is BREAK down the context of the video for morons like you who do not understand SATIRE or THE CONTEXT.

2-I`ve never once stated I support the video. You`re just assuming that.

3-I don`t like his comedy for the most part never have.

4-I`ll tell you this much I`ve hated the arrogance of classic actors like Heston my entire life and the hypocrisy of the Right in regards to actors and their role in politics. Shut up Sean Penn you`re just an actor. EVERYONE SHUT UP HESTON AND VOIGHT ARE SPEAKING ABOUT POLITICS.

5-He doesn`t mock any ethnic group.

6-And at no point does he give out false info on gun laws, unless you actually think he`s serious when he says gun owners have small wangs.

Jim Carrey`s always been a love him or hate him type of actor. Personally, I think he`s funny and this video is brilliant satire. And by the way, no one is sacred in Hollywood. Elvis, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and so many other`s are fodder for great comedy... So why the banging of the drums for Heston?

Sure! Carrey is well within his "rights" to make this, I`m never going to say otherwise. However, it`s still:
- full of bigoted stereotypes
- packed with lies
- really, very, extremely... stupid.

Hell, I thought jim carey was the one that was dead. Charlton Heston will stay alive in just his movies, and being a GREAT actor. Which is something Jim carey will NEVER have, all Jim is known for is poo poo and fart jokes and not even funny ones at that. The fact he made fun of HEE HAW is really a pisser, that show paved the way for the garbage they called "In living Color" which made his sorry as famous, as the token cracker.

one video, which is fine and all, but you seem really hostile towards people who don`t agree with you. Again, this video was meant to be a parody and if you did not find it funny that is ok. You shouldn`t be attacking people who don`t share the same humor with. Also calling everyone who doesn`t agree with you liberal doesn`t make it true. Just because that person has one idea that is "liberal" doesn`t make every ideal that person has liberal. Personally i don`t like tagging people with labels but if you are going to do so, it may be best to have the person say it outright rather than label them yourself.

@5cats: I think this is a parody, nothing more nor less. If you do not find it funny that is up to you and no one can change your opinion. However you should not be so aggressive to people who do find it funny. To clear up some question you had about the illogical statements in the video:
1)"Hummm, a `dead hand` cannot pull the trigger, that`s just stupid" I believe that is the point of making the song in the verse just that, to be stupid. A cold dead hand can`t pull the trigger that is what he is getting at.
2)"Why couldn`t the Angels pry his gun away? That makes NO logical sense! Heston said they COULD pry it from his cold dead hands, not that they couldn`t! Why would a physical object (a gun) be going into the afterlife?" I am pretty sure that is the point the spoof is making as well. It is illogical to say that people need to pry my gun from my cold dead hands. of course it is possible, it is just illogical to say.You are attacking Jim Carey based on on

Okay, how can you imply that a parody of a parody is an insult to the people originally being parodied? Especially when you`re not anywhere close to being one of the people that are originally being parodied?

Besides, like has been said many times before: any attention to a site/movie/TV show is free advertising, regardless of what that attention says. No such thing as bad press when it brings more hits to Funnyordie.

Also, "He Haw," really? The South is the perfect parody of the South, they don`t need some 1970s B.C TV show to point that out.

1-He`s not saying, "get rid of guns", no he`s expressing his constitutional right to voice his opposition of them while mocking them.

2-" the ever tightening grip of the mostly facist dictatorship that america is becoming"--how can this be "the most FASCIST (fixed) dictatorship if we are only on our way of becoming a dictatorship? See, you make it seem like we`ve had our fair share of dictators in America throughout history, and Obama is the worse of them all... yet, according to you, we aren`t a dictatorship yet. That`s just worded horribly.

See here`s an analogy in comparison. Australians, being the biggest consumers of shrimps on barbies, are on their way to becoming the biggest consumers of shrimps on barbies.

I don`t understand why people mock someone who`s anti-gun for having armed securities.

To me there`s a difference between a trained body guard as a profession with a gun protecting a person using their right to voice opposition to a sensitive topic against nuts with guns who want to shoot him for speaking his mind on guns and their impact on contemporary American society.

Why not mock him for supporting police? The difference is minimal IMO. Some of these body guards are former police.

Conservatives have no sense of humor. That isn`t to say they should find things they disagree with funny. But just acknowledge it as humor and not the end of the world. Everything is always so serious when they feel offended. I didn`t really find it funny, nor do I agree with many things that Jim Carry spouts regarding politics. Roll your eyes and move on. Don`t take a segment on your news station to foam at the mouth and declare how everyone should ignore Jim Carry because he is irrelevant and clearly display how relevantly retarded he is making you feel.
